    Really really good.

Funny and captivating at the same time.
I'm looking foreword to seeing this one. I've heard it was good from others too.

    • Went to see "End of Watch" tonight.

Solid movie. The main characters are good people and the brotherhood of police officers is shown accurately.

      Spoiler for scene:
I've been to too many police funerals, that hit home

      • "Trouble with the Curve" was fun. Baseball fans will especially love it. It looked like a first-time director and it is (first-time screenplay too). Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams, and even Justin Timberlake do a great job and make some scenes that could be corny actually work.

        • I was hoping Trouble with the Curve would be good but it looks terrible.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

                • I saw Dark Knight Returns last night.

It was ok, good twist at the end. Thought the whole tie up the entire story in 3 minutes at the end was a little silly.

                    I just saw Looper.

I'm not sure what to think about it. 1. It was well done, written, all that except 2. TONS of holes in the plot, which are to be expected in any movie involving time travel, and 3. I left the theater with a very heavy heart. I think this is because it is a very very dark movie that provides a bit of catharsis at the end, but the catharsis doesn't get out of the shadow of the two hours of brutal violence, bleak setting, and intense suspense that lead up to it. I got suspicious when all the trailers before it were creepy horror movies. Oh well.

Great job making Gordon look like a young Bruce Willis, though! That's probably an Oscar nod for makeup.

                    • The wife and I are back on the weekly movie routine and it was my turn to take one for the team. Pitch Perfect was not as bad as I had feared, and it helped that I imagined Senioritis in several of the roles. My wife said it was "like Glee when that show was good." I've never seen Glee, but I suspect that comment tells you all you need to know. I was entertained as even the saccharine parts had a bit of an edge (thanks in large part to Rebel Wilson who was very good as Fat Amy), but I'm sure a substantial portion of the CUF crowd would find the movie annoying, or worse. If one removed the many sexual references, I'd swear it was made by BYU students, replacing tunnel singing with a "riff off" in an empty swimming.

I was amused that the theater audience was comprised mainly of young music nerds. And I liked a line at the beginning of the movie when during rush week an a capella group's leader trying to recruit more singers said something like: "We're like the coolest kids on campus, except for the jocks, the in crowd, and other kids who are actually cool." Everyone in the film acknowledges they're total dorks, but entertaining dorks at least.

                      • Last night was Looper. I enjoyed it, mostly for the fact that it kept me thinking. I liked JGL, but I thought Bruce Willis was the best actor. There were some very tense moments. The plot was smart, but a little bloated. I thought Kid Blue was totally useless. He didn't need to be in there, especially at the end.

Yeah, I get the telekinetic kid will wreck it for some. It didn't bother me that much, but I had already left my rational belief at the door.

I'm sure there were a lot of plot holes that I didn't pick up on. But I still can't figure out one:

                        Spoiler for Plot question:
How in the hell did Sara know about loopers? She asked JGL if he was one right after she met him. I didn't pick up on any hints that pointed to a reason. The only thing I and a friend could think was that she was sent from the future to protect Cid the kid. That would kind of make sense, and would be a very interesting subplot, IMO. But it wasn't even alluded to. Or am I missing something?

I enjoyed the art style quite a bit. It is animated to look like claymation.

The story and dialogue was fun. enjoyable enough for one view.

Blunderbuss. They talked about it being the only weapon given to Loopers. That was the first thing that she saw he was carrying.

Here is a possible explanation to NWC's question, as well as addressing RC's gripe about it.

                              Spoiler for How Sara knew:
I think that there wasn't any particular secret about Loopers, it was just something that ordinary people weren't concerned about. After all, they wouldn't know the deceased victims, there wouldn't be any large manhunt, or a grieving family or anything. No news reports about missing people. The loopers themselves, as well as other bad guys knew what was going on, but all the anguish and grief for relatives of the victims is confined to the future. (A brilliant move by the mafia IMHO). Basically no one cared, unless you were in the biz. No one had to be afraid of loopers, because they'd never come for you, if you lived in present day.

Sara learned about loopers because in the past she had been a party girl who associated with loopers. (Remember when she busted the eye blood vessels of a TK playa) Of course, she could have been partying with non-looper TKs, but the movie sort of divides the population into loopers with money to spend at nightclubs, and ordinary people with no money for those kinds of luxuries.

                              For RC:
                              Spoiler for TK plot twist:
as soon as that first scene with Paul Dano who spins the quarter happened, I knew that TK would have a major role in the plot. What other reason for that scene? Especially the emphasis on the billboard touting TK as a superpower.

There were lots of clues about the superkid. He's extremely bright for his age. For example, when Sara goes upstairs to the safe and instead of taking out a weapon, locks herself in it, you know that she needs to protect herself from the kid rather than the other way around. And when she tackles young joe before the blood rain, she knew the danger came from the kid, not the gat man.

My question is about Kid Blue. He was such a screwup yet Abe keeps him around, and the kid has a pathalogical need for validation from Abe. I wondered if Kid Blue was Abe at a younger age.

Spoiler for Still not sure how Sara knew:
Wait a minute. I can't remember now, but had time travel been invented when JGL was young in the movie? If not, then how did Sara know about Loopers? It was my impression that it was invented in the future and outlawed. I assumed that the mobsters in the future traveled back to JGL's time and set up the Loopers cartel there, without the general population knowing about it. The Loopers were badasses, sure, but I assumed that they were involved in other mob-related business. It seemed to me that the assassination part of their job wasn't well-known during their time.

                                Am I wrong?
