  • Mag Gyll was just on Fallon promoting her new movie, "hysteria." I was disappointed to find out that it was not about def leppard, but that disappointment subsided when she explained that the movie is about the invention of the vibrator back in England.

"Achondroplastic dwarf" is the most appropriate technical term and represents the most common cause of short-stature. "Little people/person" is a culturally acceptable term.

It was playing last week at my local theatre and I wanted to see it, but couldn't bring myself to be the creepy guy slipping into a movie about the origin of the vibrator alone on a weekday night.... I might as well rock a trenchcoat and sunglasses.

              Mythbuster #2: Hobbitville

The Legend: According to Salt Lake City urban legend, there is a small, secret neighborhood in the city built exclusively to house little people. Hobbit Town or Hobbitville, as locals call it, is full of tiny houses and stonework with mysterious sayings carved on them. If you snoop around looking for hobbits, the little people will chase you away by throwing vegetables and running after you with pitchforks and rakes.

Verdict: This urban myth is false.

Explanation: The area known as Hobbitville is actually Allen Park, an eclectic bird sanctuary built in the 1920s. The park contains private residences and small cabin structures that serve as shelters for the birds, and its remote location and no trespassing policy contribute to its lure. The park's elaborate stone walls, pillars and gates feature mosaics and inscriptions created by the people who built the park. Although this urban myth sounds more like the setting for a good book than reality, many curious locals often attempt to trespass looking for hobbits inside this intriguing and quirky neighborhood in Salt Lake City.

They are always tearing stuff up, nibbling on people's legs, pushing each other over, chasing someone on foot, or causing havoc. Even in a more modern context, you have the Seinfeld ones that were scheming to put lifts in their shoes, and the elf dude that gets really angry and brags about his expensive TV sets.
Dinklage actually talked about this in his Rolling Stone interview. Not unionizing or anything, but mentioned that if he was going to stay in Hollywood he wanted to play actual characters, not props. I think that's why his turn as Tryrion Lannister has been so celebrated -- you just don't see that kind of stuff very often.

That place does have a fascinating history. And anyone who claims to have been chased out of there is probably not lying (it's just that they weren't chased by little people.) They often hire private security to keep out all the pesky thrill-seeking teenagers. I've been run off myself in the past.
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

There is plenty of that kind of stereotyping in Tyrion's character. Although, Tyrion is a force to be reckoned with in his own right, not just laughed at. So, still a positive step forward.

People stereotype him to be one thing that the show has clearly shown he's not -- Tyrion the character is anything but a stereotype. The overarching point is that he's a real character with a growth curve, not some prop marching to Dark Side of the Moon, er, along the Yellow Brick road.

                        • I dragged Garth to see Snow White over the weekend. It wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be, but it wasn't a bad movie. It was darker than I thought it would be too, but I think that helped to tell the whole good conquers evil story. It's not one I would see again in the theater, but I will probably buy the DVD when it was released.

Garth slept through most of it. I don't know how he can sleep when the volume is so loud in theaters.

He should check his scrips to make sure there are no unintended cocktail effects that might account for his sleepiness.

How in the world did you drag Garth to it?

I guess if anyone has dirt on Garth, it would be you.

It wasn't that difficult. After being married to him for 22 years, I know how to deal with him. This time, I told him that we would have dinner wherever he wanted to eat. So we went to Midvale Mining Company and he was happy.
