DreamWorks CEO offered to pay $75m for just three more Breaking Bad episodes (before he found out how it ended)

    • DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg was denied due to the show's cemented plot line
    • The show would have made more profit from three episodes than they made in five years of the entire series
    • The show would have been available online for 50 to 99 cents

Is this show any good? Should I start watching it?

A letter from Anthony Hopkins to Bryan Cranston:

              Dear Mister Cranston.

I wanted to write you this email – so I am contacting you through Jeremy Barber – I take it we are both represented by UTA . Great agency.

I’ve just finished a marathon of watching “BREAKING BAD” – from episode one of the First Season – to the last eight episodes of the Sixth Season. (I downloaded the last season on AMAZON) A total of two weeks (addictive) viewing.

I have never watched anything like it. Brilliant!

Your performance as Walter White was the best acting I have seen – ever.

I know there is so much smoke blowing and sickening bullshit in this business, and I’ve sort of lost belief in anything really.

But this work of yours is spectacular – absolutely stunning. What is extraordinary, is the sheer power of everyone in the entire production. What was it? Five or six years in the making? How the producers (yourself being one of them), the writers, directors, cinematographers…. every department – casting etc. managed to keep the discipline and control from beginning to the end is (that over used word) awesome.

From what started as a black comedy, descended into a labyrinth of blood, destruction and hell. It was like a great Jacobean, Shakespearian or Greek Tragedy.

If you ever get a chance to – would you pass on my admiration to everyone – Anna Gunn, Dean Norris, Aaron Paul, Betsy Brandt, R.J. Mitte, Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, Steven Michael Quezada – everyone – everyone gave master classes of performance … The list is endless.

Thank you. That kind of work/artistry is rare, and when, once in a while, it occurs, as in this epic work, it restores confidence.

You and all the cast are the best actors I’ve ever seen.

That may sound like a good lung full of smoke blowing. But it is not. It’s almost midnight out here in Malibu, and I felt compelled to write this email.

Congratulations and my deepest respect. You are truly a great, great actor.

              Best regards

              Tony Hopkins.
According to the Superficial, this letter was making the rounds on the internet before it got pulled down after questions about its authenticity. Two sites were able to confirm today through Hopkins publicist that it was in fact written by him and sent to Cranston. Pretty cool.

Missed opportunity!! We all would have forgiven a 3 episode detour to Omaha before the finale to examine the life of the new Saul Goodman!

Well... first things first: read this thread from the start, then watch some episodes from the last season, THEN decide. Right, Brock?

I'm almost through season 2 and started reading this thread from the beginning only to find out that it probably started after season 2. I want to read the thread as I watch the episodes but don't want to hit any spoilers. Is there a point at which it's safe to start reading from the beginning? Maybe after I finish season 2?

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I also suggest reading Sepinwall's episode recaps.

I am about at the same point. The wife and I started watching about an episode a week. We just watched the episode when Walt came home to find Skyler talking to Gretchen and thanking her and her husband for paying for the cancer treatments. We still have a long ways to go on this journey.

My daughters didn't watch it, but now they're gung-ho. I may get to watch the whole thing over again, enjoying the nuance of older eyes, and the commentary of newbies. Could be good fun.
