wuap (and/or SRN), what's so cool about the shadow lining up exactly? I'm having a hard time understanding why all those people are clapping and hollering in the video.
falawful, it looks like a snake's back, and the head at the bottom lines up with it perfectly. It only does this two days a year. To know that it was built without large animals or any kind of heavy machinery shows the ingenuity of the Mayan people.

And they didn't use anything like a slide rule either.

Time for a few boat photos. This one was taken in Yelapa, Mexico, south of Puerto Vallarta. You can't drive to the town, you can only get there by boat. We came in a water taxi, like the one heading to the left in this photo. I liked the look of that sailboat in the middle and thought that this captured the feeling of the place pretty well.
This photo was taken in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. I especially like the way the colors work and how all of the different parts fit together. Someday, when I finally "find the time", I would like to do a watercolor painting of this scene.
Here's a plug for Adorama: I ordered the T1i on the afternoon of the 5th, it shipped that same evening, and it arrived this afternoon. Total turn-around was less than 48 hours, and shipping was free. I haven't done anything with it other than to unpack it, but it seems to be in pristine condition.
In Puerto Vallarta, you can sign up for a catamaran or more normal boat to go out and see the sights, or you can go out on this pirate ship. They have both daytime and sunset cruises, and make it a point to fire their "cannon" when they're somewhere that the people on shore will notice them. I've never tried it, but it seems like a pretty good party boat.
I've taken quite a few photos of it, both day an night, and feel that this is the best one. You'll notice that it doesn't seem to need sails to move.
A few years ago my wife and I went over to San Francisco for Fleet Week. That's when a bunch of Navy ships come into San Francisco Bay under the Golden Gate bridge. They also have the Blue Angels put on a show out over the bay. I took lots of photos of all that, but none of them turned out very good.
They also had the Red Bull Air Races, which is probably the fastest of all "motor sports". I took a bunch of photos trying to capture the action and I thought this was the best, showing how hard those guys turn while traveling at over 200 mph. I'm pretty sure that this is Peter Besenyei from Bulgaria flying the plane.
I really am not qualified to post anything in this thread as I suck at photography. However, I sometimes can take a decent photo. Here is one that I took while on vacation in NY. It's nothing really spectacular but it did take the right timing as I took it on the ferry back from Ellis Island and had to take it right when the ESB was in the right place. I do wish I would have centered the buildings better (not an easy thing to do on a ferry in windy conditions) but I guess I could always crop it to fix that.

With a digital camera, where extra photos cost you basically nothing, I'll take one photo framed the way I think it should be, then one more zoomed out a bit more that I can crop later. You're more likely to get the one you want if you take several, zooming by different amounts. Unless it's something really big where you can't zoom back out further. But you can always take several panning shots and stitch them for really big scenes.

Good point. I usually take a lot of photos as well but haven't tried zooming in or out and cropping later. The issue with this photo is that I literally had 1/2 a second to take it. The ferry was moving across the horizon and it was bouncing up and down in the wind so I kind of got lucky.

Those are the ones that I usually miss completely.
The photo is a good one (go ahead and post more please), I made a few adjustments for your review... 1) used some contrast layers to bring out the color, 2) lightly burned some of the sun-facing building facades, and 3) and made a tighter crop:
I hope you had a pleasant trip.
cheers.
Nice. It looks like a post card (and I mean that in a complimentary way).
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.
