        Such a jaunty bird!

I've always wanted to hit the Hotel Del early in the morning when the SEALs are out swimming or jogging on the beach. SEALs in front, Del in back.

That would be cool to see. Do they jog very fast?

It always amazes me how much you can pull out of the shadows without pushing it so far that it looks fake.

Most cameras will underexpose wildlife in automatic mode. The background is often lighter than the subject and which leaves the subject too dark. Learning the exposure system of you camera is essential to getting an exposure with the most detail without blowing out the highlights (or sometimes choosing to do just that when needed). Human eyes can adapt for dark subject/light background (because the have more dynamic range and a huge computer to interpret the imagery). But yes, detail pulled from the shadows is often what makes wildlife images more interesting, usually pulling up the shadows at the same time increasing the contrast a bit. It's also helpful is the light is even (it was an overcast morning).

                  Here's the original:

And the edit (with a slight crop):

haven’t done any processing yet... Focus is a bit off. It was really hard to get the focus right in the dark.
                        Taken last night.

In preparation for our Kenya trip ( that it still happens) I decided to finally get serious about shooting in RAW. I bought a used Canon body with a full-frame sensor, put on a wide angle lens, and went to the Muir Woods Forest. I'm using Canon's DPP 4 software to edit them.
