The world would be a much different place if we had 6 fingers on each hand instead of 5. Just a couple things that would be different:

    - It would take 2 more seconds to count to 10
    - Keyboards could have and additional 10-15 keys or maybe they'd be longer (2 rows instead of 3)
    - Putting gloves on a kids hand would be 20% harder than it is now
    - Baseball pitchers would have a bigger advantage
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

two extra fingers and that's what comes to your mind? speaks volumes.

        This is incorrect.

I had a long discussion with former Phillies reliever Antonio Alfonseca about this. Alfonseca has an extra digit on each hand. He said it makes no difference as you rarely throw a pitch using your entire hand. He did however say he can throw a mean spiral with a football as his extra finger really helps spin it.

Well, if they were second opposable thumbs on each hand then my list would be a bit different.

I think two extra arms would be awesome.

Hah! I just received a mailer from BYU asking me to donate to their Engineering Building Initiative. I wonder what combination of events/preferences/past giving combined to create the algorithm that concluded I would want to help build the new Engineering Building.

I received the same mailer a few weeks back. I threw it in the trash, the world has enough pompous engineers.

The only pitch where all fingers have contact with the ball is a change up (well, among the standard pitches anyway; you could throw the knuckler in there as well). On a change up having all the fingers contact the ball and getting it deep in the hand creates the drag you need to keep up your arm speed but have the ball come out with less velocity at release. Otherwise, all other pitches (fastball, curve, slider, etc.) are out in the fingertips and you're trying to decrease that drag. I guess the pinky helps stabilize the ring finger in the grip, but really you could probably throw all of those without even a fifth finger.

Work cancelled tomorrow due to a threat of snow and a dusting of ice. I'll have 6 days of work off without taking a day of pto!

There is perhaps no feeling as helpless as when your child is hurt. (My 3 year old just fell off the couch on his back and has a huge abrasion, crying inconsolably.)
