Its really easy to tell that someone has a vibrator in their carryon when looking at the x-Ray screen at the airport."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

People who write, "Happy Birthday to the Best Mother Ever" on facebook always make me think Best Mother Effer."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.
The rest of us rarely bother to think about our actions." --Solon

I'm an amateur songwriter, making up songs occasionally when I'm on a horse or driving a tractor and want to occupy my mind with something entertaining. Most songs take a day or two, and some only a few hours. One song, though, has taken nearly twenty years. It started with an opening line and a story, and I've added a line here and there, but never have been able to make it come together. I mentioned it to my daughter the other night, and as we were talking about it I was motivated to finish it. Things started to finally come together this week as I was gathering cattle, and now I only have a few lines left. It feels pretty good - kind of like finishing a jigsaw puzzle after 20 years.sigpic

Pretty cool. Do you ever write down or record these songs?Originally posted by cowboy View PostI'm an amateur songwriter, making up songs occasionally when I'm on a horse or driving a tractor and want to occupy my mind with something entertaining. I've recorded most of them, but can't tell you where the recordings are. We play one or two in our band, but most of them I write for my own entertainment and sing to my kids.Originally posted by USUC View PostPretty cool. Do you ever write down or record these songs?sigpic

That made me smile. As a tone deaf dad with very musically talented children, it's hard to imagine singing to my kids without getting laughed at and ridiculed mercilessly.Originally posted by cowboy View PostI've recorded most of them, but can't tell you where the recordings are. My kids liked it. My wife didn't think much of it. She is the hardest person to impress that I know.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostThat made me smile. Last year I was following a truck with a dog in the back. The dog was constantly running back and forth from one side to the other. As I observed this I made up a song on the fly, and sang it while the dog did his thing. When I got home I put the words on paper and called it "A Dog in the back of a Dodge." It was fun to put the moment into lyric.

This post brought back one of the most traumatic memories of my childhood. We were on the freeway, following a truck with a pig in the back. It was a cute pink pig, smallish. It was tied by a rope that attached its neck to the truck. As we watched aghast, it climbed up onto the side of the truck where it stood teetering on the edge. Then it fell over the side where it was dragged on the road by the oblivious truck driver. At freeway speeds. Its squeals were deafening, along with my dad vigorously honking our car horn. Our car filled with the smell of bacon. The farmer finally noticed and pulled over to the side, dragging the pig on its back across 3 lanes of traffic.Originally posted by clackamascoug View PostLast year I was following a truck with a dog in the back.
