  • I agree with The Dude on Tokyo Disneyland. It makes zero sense to go there. Especially for multiple days.

Here is another pro tip: Don't eat at McDonald's when you are in Japan. They have so much great food!

      • Are there two Disney parks in Tokyo? I've heard that one of them (assuming there's two) is the best of the Disney parks. Although I fully understand the sentiment, Disney is sort of our family's thing, so when we got to Tokyo, we're definitely going to hit it up. The goal is to go to all Disney parks/cruises/resorts that aren't located in mainland China.

You obviously don't get it. There's new stuff to see in Tokyo Disney! I fought the same fight when we visited France and won because it was a short stay in Paris. Next time when I want to add in Normandy and make it longer, I'm going to have to fight it again.

I also have a rule of not eating in chains.

Hmm, going to Disneyland Paris or going to Normandy. Tough choice!

We're considering taking Bo Jr and his wife with us to Japan. Bo Jr served in the Fukuoka Mission. I'm trying to figure out how long to plan--they do have two young kids that probably wouldn't go. I'm also trying to figure out what to do there. Unfortunately, the missus is going to want to spend a day or two in Tokyo Disney.
I haven't spent much time overseas, and none really since I've been married with kids. But I just got back from Hawaii a week ago. 7 days, and I was bored for about 3 of them.

I would have loved to stay longer than the 7 day we spent in Hawaii. We were on Oahu with all the touristy stuff. My favorite thing was snorkeling.

                  You're doing it wrong then.

                    • I am sure I would enjoy Hawaii, but I have never been, and it is not in my Top 10 places to go. I am probably not giving enough credit to the non-beach attractions.

Lay it out for me. Kauai. 7 days. We'll compare.

I very well may be. But, for one thing, I am 4-6 hours further from Hawaii than most folks here, and there are no nonstop flights from my airport. I can get a whole lot of places in this fine world in a lot less than the 13 + hours it would take me to get to Hawaii.

I am not a big beach guy, and the only way I like to do the beach is if I am staying in a beachfront house. This is pretty easy to do on a Carolina beach, not so much in Hawaii is my guess? Traveling from a hotel or something to get to a beach never interested me, not when I was living in California, and not now.

I understand that there are a lot of beautiful places and hikes as well, so I am sure I will get to Hawaii at some point, but the travel time and lack of interest in the beaches have pushed it down on my priority list so far.

Wish I could. I've never been to Kauai. It's on my list though.

I get that. I hear your beaches are pretty great. There's just something different about Hawaii. For me, I love exploring the stark contrasts of the eastern and western side of the islands. I could snorkel every day there, hoping for that sublime moment when a sea turtle crosses your path and doesn't care that you're around. Mrs. NWC is not as fanatical with snorkeling as I am. So when we get our fill of the dry western sides, we head east to get the green and all the beauty.

                              • I am fat...so Hawaii has little to no appeal to me. I don't tan, I don't swim in the ocean, and I don't hike. I will say this....if I was built like some of y'all here, I would totally do all of that stuff.
