    I'm actually good with the rain. Plus this time of year, it won't rain too much. Hopefully it doesn't rain on the Queen's parade.

      This time of year...LOL! I arrived in jolly ol England on a Tuesday. On Wednesday I met my trainer. It was sunny Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday we worked and it was sunny and beautiful. Thursday night I was at a DA joking with the member family that I had brought the sunny SoCal weather with me. It started raining Friday. The next time I can remember seeing the sun was when the plane got above the clouds the day I flew out of Manchester International Airport 22 months later. We got super lucky. Not a drop of rain for 10 days in July.

          Haha. I got there in September. The sun tracked across the horizon lower than I was used to, and it was often behind the buildings or clouds when I moved about the country. And there were no mountains to use as a point of reference. I have a very good sense of direction, but it really took me a while to orient myself to the cardinal directions in each area I served. And don't even get me started on my left and right. Driving on the wrong side of the road messed that up for years.

          • The weather here has been perfect. Not too hot, not much rain. It did rain a couple days back, but we were always inside when it rained.

            Right now we're about 300 meters from Buckingham Palace waiting for the party to start. Queen, Elton John, Duran Duran and others will be performing.

                  Yeah, no such luck. After singing along with Queen, it got pretty lame. Eventually Rod Stewart came out and he was surprisingly spry. Andrei Beccelli was good. So was Duran Duran.

Got some good recommendations for an Alaska first timer last time around including Cope's above. We settled on a week long trip. First two days will be Committee meetings in Anchorage, but we will break about 3pm both days. Still don't know what we are doing those afternoons.

                      All day Saturday after meetings end, the committee has been offered a private car on the Alaska Railroad Coastal Classic Line round trip Seward. If I were paying, I would probably do the Denali Star, but can't beat free and coastal sight-seeing down to Seward was mentioned to me by a few people. We then have three days before we fly home early morning. It's looking like we will rent a car and drive up to stay near or in Denali for 2 nights. It's a long drive for a short stay but I don't know if/when I'll get back and I want to see the area and the park. We drive up early morning then stay two nights and drive back in the afternoon, so we do get more than two full days there. Anyone have recommendations for lodging in or near to Denali? There seem to be a wide range of options from true off the grid living without power or plumbing to luxury backcountry resorts accessible only by helicopter.
                      We are about 24 hours from our scheduled departure. Kids developed minor fevers yesterday. Daughter is coughing a bit today. My parents are coming to watch them so we gave them home COVID tests. Both positive. So of course we both test and my wife is negative and I'm positive. I have almost zero symptoms. A mild headache only but that could just be constant lack of sleep. But regardless trip is obviously off. COVID took it in 2020 and came back today to make sure we didn't pull it off.

                      We have a family reunion scheduled in 10 days before which the three of us should resolve just fine. Wife is checking into a hotel for 3-4 days because she is terrified she will get infected closer to the reunion and not be able to go. Also parents are now here 10 days before the reunion but can't see their grandkids. It's all super annoying but better than exposing my 74 year old diabetic father even though he is boosted like 15 times.

                      • This summer has not been fun in planning a vacation. We are doing Disneyland in the Fall but we also usually do an extended weekend visit to Vegas to visit my wife's family and friends. We usually crash at my BIL's house but this year my wife wants to do a hotel. With gas prices and a looming Disneyland trip, I'm just not thrilled to do a hotel. We've been bickering about this for a week. My BIL always seems excited about us coming into town but maybe my wife can sense something I don't.

                          Which part of town does your BIL live? I would find a hotel nearby rather than anything on the strip. Will be way easier to get in and out of.

                          Green Valley Ranch in Henderson;
                          Red Rock in Summerlin;
                          Aliante in (gulp) North Town.

                            I wouldn't fret too much about it. A hotel will be pretty cheap booking out so far and so soooo much better when visiting family; it's just good to have your own space.

                              Do you participate in any credit card reward programs like Chase Ultimate Rewards or American Express Membership Rewards? If so, you may be able to use points to book something which would help mitigate the out-of-pocket cost.

                              Also, having your own space you can retreat to can be good even if you like being around family.

                                He is just off of Eastern on Wigwam. Green Valley Ranch is as close as it gets.

                                I never rhought I would be as uptight with money as I've become apparently. Literally everyone i speak to echos the advice here. Damnit, I'm going to have to concede to my wife on this.
