We felt we were drifting from our roots, so we made a pilgrimage to Provo this past week (graduation). I guess the highlight (besides graduation) was Coconut Cove. The little kids and our DS daughter had a blast. Apparently they are tearing up my BIL's street (4750 off of University) and putting up a bunch of multi-family units across the street from their family property. He's not happy about it - but he'll probably make a few million when he develops his own land there.

We are doing Kirtland and Nauvoo around that time, maybe a week earlier. Should be fun. We made it to Nauvoo 8 years ago but my youngest wasn't even 1 yet, so the kids will hopefully appreciate it more.

Hey, I said "to each their own." England is great. I just wouldn't spend over a week there when there are so many other cooler places to go in Europe.

Absolutely agree. England is OK, but there are many more and better places to go and see on the continent.

Sure. Lots of wonderful places, but stop acting like England isn't a great destination too.

                • Huh? England is amazing. Who complains about the destinations and cool places to see in England?

Who's complaining I agree with the idea that a week is enough and I prefer spending more time in other countries in Europe.

                      • I personally would vote for England. When I retire I want to spend a couple of months just wandering around the place - so much history . Of course I want to do the same thing for the rest of Europe also. I really want to go back and see where I went to High School (It's no longer there) and lived in Germany (Bamberg, Ansbach, Herzogenaurch - the home of Adidas).

I may be small, but I'm slow.

BTW, I am currently studying Japanese like crazy to try to revitalize my old skills. It is fun and things are coming back quickly. Also, together with my wife and son we are all trying to lean Spanish. So it is a daily language fest at the Lebowski home.
I'm near native in Spanish and Portuguese, no issues whatsoever. I can speak Catalán at an Advanced Low level, but I read it at a Superior level. I can understand almost all written French, most of spoken French, and I can make myself understood in French. Same goes for Italian, probably Intermediate Mid level. I've never tried Rumanian, but I'd say I'm probably a Novice Mid speaker. German? My wife and son have recorded me a couple of times screaming in German while talking in my sleep. My colleague at work says I'm just shouting random lines that sound like they come from WW2 movies.

I'd love to speak Japanese. The language's syntax is beautiful to me, and their ability and willingness to adopt new words from other languages, to me, is the mark of a complex and mature cultural mindset. I think it'd take me a good year of full immersion, but having read about it extensively, I'm pretty sure I could become fluent in Japanese and Korean. However, I think it'd take me a good three straight years of immersion to get to the same level I'm at in Spanish.

With all those languages I can't imagine why anyone would be concerned travelling with you. I have been to a fair few places and always managed to get through with English, mission French and some cultural humility and patience.

Btw, you didn't mention Italian, but with all that french and spanish italian would be a breeze to understand, if not to speak, as I am sure you know.
                            PLesa excuse the tpyos.
