Airbnb in Denmark at first and then a Clarion Inn at the end, and vrbo in Croatia and Finland, Marriott in London (ouch....$2k), Hilton in Estonia, and not sure yet about the rest. SOme rental cars, some cities are walkable (London), no way in hell I'm driving in Turkey or Estonia--they have Lyft both places, but we plan to mostly stay near the hotels, though our plans aren't finalized yet.Originally posted by Moliere View PostSounds like an incredible trip.
Will you do Airbnb or hotels or something else? Any planned car rentals or will it all be trains and public transport?"Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.

That is a ton of work to set up a trip like that. I admire your annual summer treks. We'll go over to Malmo. I need some Marabou, if nothing else. Plus, I'm fairly certain they have birds in Sweden.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostToo much Denmark and not enough Sweden!

I love Nauvoo. We had a family reunion there a few years ago. That's a very Mormony thing to do, yes, but it really was fun. There's some nice trails if you're a runner, too.Originally posted by All-American View PostAnybody been to Nauvoo recently? Last year in Zurich, I was trying to explain to an uber driver on the phone where we were in German and it was going poorly. Since French is one of the official languages of Switzerland, I tried my hand with French, and the dude yelled something at me, hung up, and cancelled the trip. Apparently in the German part of Switzerland, everyone knows German and English, and sort of goes out of their way not to speak/learn French, which cracks me up.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostI hope so. My wife has to work, so that complicates things a bit. I'm fearless when it comes to language, but my wife's got some serious apprehension about going to everywhere but the Uk and Croatia (a colleague at Coker from Croatia is meeting us there). I just know that I've never had a problem communicating and you can usually find someone who speaks one of the other languages I speak. The only time in my life I've ever had a problem was in Innsbruck, Austria in 1995 at 5AM on a Sunday morning. We left the train station and not a one of the taxi drivers spoke English. When I asked, "Sprechen zie Spanglich?" they looked at me like I was the dumbest person on the planet. We had to walk a few miles to find somewhere open where someone spoke English, because my German was limited to "Bitte, ich moechte ein zimmer" and stuff like that. We were trying to catch a bus to Liechtenstein and that was beyond my skill set.Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

BTW, I am currently studying Japanese like crazy to try to revitalize my old skills. It is fun and things are coming back quickly. Also, together with my wife and son we are all trying to lean Spanish. Looks awesome, Wuap. My family and I were in Croatia for three months last year (
) and we spent a week each in Bosnia and Montenegro. You are probably doing a side trip to Mostar, Bosnia and Kotor, Montenegro. My advice: skip the Mostar trip and spend more time in Montenegro. Kotor is the most stunning place I've ever seen; the old town is amazing (but touristy), but there are dozens of other towns on the bay that have a nice place to eat seafood and spend the day. Mostar, on the other hand, has a famous bridge and that is pretty much it; and that bridge is a replacement of the original bridge which was destroyed in the Croat-Serb-Bosniak cluster F of a few decades ago.
TL;DR: more croatia/montenegro, less mostar.
Also, too much UK time for my taste, but to each their own.
