2015 celebrity Death poll
Gwen Ifill passed away from cancer today. Seems like I was just watching her cover the election. Which isn't too hard to remember since she worked up until a week ago.

I don't know if anyone else remembers him, except maybe '71, JL PAC or Creekster, but Howard Ruff passed away. He was one of the first mass market contrarian financal gurus. His schtick wasEvery thing was going to go to pieces anytime now, so you had better be pared.
I ran across his Obit while looking up my uncles.

My how fickle is fame is, I don't remember hearing anything about his death on any news media.
I may be small, but I'm slow.
A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

I heard the news somewhere. Yes, he certainly had his fifteen minutes back in the day.Originally posted by happyone View PostI don't know if anyone else remembers him, except maybe '71, JL PAC or Creekster, but Howard Ruff passed away. I vaguely recall him. Who was that Mormon guy that became a financial guru with one of his recommendations being to put in a year's supply of food? I think he appeared regularly on Good Morning America or the Today Show for a bit.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostI heard the news somewhere. For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I remember him well. He was a prophet of gloom and encouraged purchasing gold. We used to make fun of him for his style and dire predictions. In his defense, though, he did encourage self reliance and preparation which gave a type of hope. And the 70s were pretty gloomy; he rose to prominence when one of the best things the government could offer was a lapel pin that said "WIN" and stood for Whip Inflation Now. No wonder people were willing to listen to a guy like Ruff.Originally posted by happyone View PostI don't know if anyone else remembers him, except maybe '71, JL PAC or Creekster, but Howard Ruff passed away. I remember him fairly well, and rolled my eyes many times at those who told me he was a genius and needed to be followed. I think he lived in the Bay Area for awhile and, as the gay rights movement was really getting going in SF in the late 70s, a good friend heard him say something like, "If God doesn't destroy San Francisco he'll need to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah."Originally posted by happyone View PostI don't know if anyone else remembers him, except maybe '71, JL PAC or Creekster, but Howard Ruff passed away. When I was in college we had a ward swimming party at an indoor pool attached to a mansion in Mapleton. The girl who organized it said it was Howard Ruff's place, and that she was his secretary (or at least a secretary who worked for him). I didn't see any Ruff family members while I was there, but it was certainly a big house.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostI remember him fairly well, and rolled my eyes many times at those who told me he was a genius and needed to be followed.
