Lucille Bluth would be a remarkable improvement.

I'm not going to air any of my dirty laundry, but I cautiously agree that I see something of my mother in some of what you describe. I prefer to focus on my mother's enormous talent and intellect, and the things she is very good at. The other stuff, well, Dad makes up for a lot of that. And maybe all mothers can't provide everything we would wish for. I'm sure we're all disappointments to our children at some point.

Or, as would the be the case here with these siblings, our children can be disappointments too.

This thread began as a way to laugh at the silly conversations that we have back and forth. She is overtly hyperbolic, and sometimes even a bit entertaining. I'd rather not get into all the betrayal and pain that's been caused by my sham of a relationship with my mother.

I'm not defending what I say, as I do not feel anything requires defense. Rather, just providing a little context.

I rather enjoy the musings regarding the Viking clan mother. I relate quite well.

My mother is a good person with some great qualities. She was also a fairly shitty (manipulative, selfish, uncaring) parent. Without the ability to bag on her crazy "diet pill" days and general disdain for her children ruining her life trajectory (by merely being born), my siblings and I would never have reached a level of acceptance or forgiveness with her. It is what it is. She's less selfish, more caring, but even more manipulative now. We all soldier on. . . usually with phone calls and emails starting out, "You are NOT going to believe what Mom did/said. . ."

Also, if my children talk about me the way I routinely talk about my mother, it will be because I failed to break the shitty parenting chain in my family.

Apparently The Evil One showed up at Haute's place of work to tell her she was dressed immodestly. This reminds me of being in the seventh grade and having my mom show up and declare in the principals office I needed to go home because I didn't make my bed.
