Today in Bountiful. A little slow at first but then fireworks.

That looked like fun. I can remember two or three times when I lived in Utah and the roads were about that slick. You could either steer or try to stop, but not both. Unfortunately few people seem to understand that concept.
Here in California I had to drive my car to work for three days because of the rain (I don't like getting wet), but I'm back riding a motorcycle once again. I don't miss Utah weather.
So a question for those of you that have recommended drop spreaders....have you used them for salting or just for lawn fertilizer?
I read a lot of reviews and many of them indicated that in snowy conditions, the plastic wheels don't grip well and simply slide along, thereby making salt distribution very difficult. a few people said they were great.

What has been your experience?
It has been great for me. I will every so often (like once or twice a winter) need to spray down the spreader, but I've got no complaints.
Why would you be salting in a snow storm? I find it best to wait for a break, do the plowing, then salt. You can pre spread salt but that is put going to stop a big snowstorm.

My bad. I didn't mean to imply that is was actually snowing, but rather that it had just been snowing, still very cold out, etc.
Our driveway has a long sloped portion to it. This morning I removed the driveway coverage with a shovel, leaving only the thin slick layer, which I then salted by hand. The salt worked like a charm within about 15 minutes. I am wondering if the plastic wheels will rotate or simply slide down the slope. I guess there is only one way to find out.
I am thinking of just buying a used one on KSL. I can pick one up for $10. if it works, great. If not, it doesn't cost me much.
Is yours a traditional drop spreader or does yours rotate and spray in 360 degrees? For my needs, a standard drop spreader is what I think I want.

Mine is the one pictured. It spreads 180 and has an edge guard that is helpful for not pitching it into the street when doing sidewalks.
TD, don't be so cheap and get both types of spreaders. That is what I do. The hand spreader fits right inside the push spreader when you store them. Then you can use the push one for big areas and the hand one for smaller areas where you want to have tighter control over your distribution.

Ill show you cheap. I'll buy both! Tomorrow!
Actually, I'm not sure I need both. I just need to salt the sloped portion of my driveway, which is straight. I like the drop spreader for two reasons: first, it is wider than a tire, so I can do 4 quick passes and have two nice ruts for the tires. Second, they can hold more than an entire bag so I won't ever have to go back up to the garage a few times to refill it while salting.
