We have a north-facing house and a driveway that gets no sun. If I don't shovel snow immediately after a storm it will be there for weeks, if not until spring. I salt the sidewalk and the walk to the house but not the driveway."It's devastating, because we lost to a team that's not even in the Pac-12. To lose to Utah State is horrible." - John White IV

Is there any reason you don't salt the driveway? Judging from pictures, your driveway is pretty level, no? S I guess there isn't a great need to de ice it. Ours is fairly steep so the incline concerns me.Originally posted by kccougar View PostWe have a north-facing house and a driveway that gets no sun. When salting your walks, what sort of salt do you use? I've noticed various grades of salt. Also, I have read that there is risk of burn-in on the concrete if you keep putting salt there over the winter. Ever have that problem on your walks?Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Yes, my driveway has only a small, short slope so I don't normally need to ice it for my vehicles. I do ice the area where people may need to walk to get from their car to the walk to the front door if there is ice there. I use whatever they have on sale at the front of the Home Depot, and I apply it typically right after I shovel the snow.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostIs there any reason you don't salt the driveway? Which direction does your driveway face? If you clear it of snow then you are typically good - meaning the salt should be just a one-time application each time you clear the snow unless you have water that runs across your concrete or other moisture issues. I've never seen any damage to my concrete from the salt."It's devastating, because we lost to a team that's not even in the Pac-12. To lose to Utah State is horrible." - John White IV

Driveway is on the west side of the house so it will actually see sun most of the day. I will go pick up some bags of salt and call it a day, I suppose. I noticed the grades of salt were for different temp ranges, some of them going down to -40. Yikes.Originally posted by kccougar View PostYes, my driveway has only a small, short slope so I don't normally need to ice it for my vehicles. It was 37 degrees this morning during my commute. I almost stayed home."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

12 below the night before last but warmed up to the teens yesterday and only dipped to 2 below last night. Winter is here. I'll be gathering cattle for the next 2 weeks starting Friday so hopefully it will warm up to the 20s.sigpic

So a Christmas where fewer people get killed driving around? Sounds OK.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostIf everything here is going to be dead and brown, can we at least get some snow to ease the visuals? There is no snow in the 10-day which means we all might be dreaming of a Brown X-mas

Amen. Snow's great, but it belongs in the mountains. My opinion may be slightly colored by the fact that I sat through a few depositions last week involving a 30+ car accident that was caused by snow and people who don't know how to drive in it.Originally posted by EuropeanFootballMale View PostSo a Christmas where fewer people get killed driving around? No one died, so nothing (or no one) killed anyone. A lot of cars were wrecked, though. Besides, the UHP determination was that the snow was a major contributing factor, so legally, the snow is on the hook. Since the plaintiff can't find Mother Nature so that she can be served, she elected to sue pretty much everyone else involved in the accident instead.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostSnow doesn't kill people.
