Some guys I work with say there are sportsbooks in the casino in Mississippi. Is that true?

*Please note if this is true I will be visiting Mississippi soon.

They have always been spendy, even pre advertising. In fact it is slightly cheaper now than when we went in 03. But it is very nice and there is a ton of things to do for both kids and adults.

I went there in May and it is pretty awesome. The waterpark was unbelievable.

Go see some National Parks instead of theme parks. There are lots of them to choose from in the southern half of California:

          Joshua Tree
          Channel Islands
          Death Valley
          Kings Canyon/Sequoia
          Yosemite

          They're all worth seeing.

Yosemite and Sequoia might be al ittel cold in October, especially for small kids. Death Valley is a great place but not sure about small children. My teens and tweens loved it, however. Saem with Joshua. Although for Joshua you are near golf and other fun in Palm Springs area and could also combine it witha trip to D-land or some such in LA.
            PLesa excuse the tpyos.

So did you book through a travel agent or online? There's a pretty wide range of room prices- -are the more expensive rooms worth the extra cost? Where do you fly into? Are there packages that include airfare?
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I've been to Yosemite twice in October and it was wonderful both times. The second time the leaves weren't quite as good as when these were taken, though:

you fly into Nassau and take a cab onto paradise island ($60). There are 5 areas to stay,

                    Coral Towers
                    Beach Towers
                    Royal Towers
                    The Cove
                    The Reef

The Coral and Beach towers have been there since the 60's or so. they are more affordable, but pretty dated from what I hear. The views are not that great and they are far from the action, but do have their own pools and such.

The Royal Towers was Kerzners addition when he bought the property. It is huge and modern and has great views from both sides.

The Cove was built in 07' and is like a W in feel. Very modern, very nice. The Reef was finished in 08' I believe and is like a timeshare, but you can rent them.

The RT and The Cove are situated on the action. Aquadventure is the main attraction and is an unbelievable never ending water slide/wild river.

Food is expensive as hell, but there are some really nice restaurants and things to do(can't list them all). If you are not pinching pennies, it can be one hell of a memorable vacation, for sure.

If you Golf, you have access to play The One and Only Ocean Club, which is a very nice setting.

We have never booked through a travel agent but that could be a good way to go. My in laws are frequent guests, so we have always used their casino host to get us a good deal, knowing that it will keep her happy.

I have lived in California 17 years and have only been to the Sequoia National Forest.

I haven't even been to the Trail of 100 Giants...and that is only about 20 minutes from where I will be camping this weekend.

                      I suck.

No argumetn from me. I have been there in all seasons and actually find Winter to be my favorite (for visiting the valley, as the high country is closed then), but I am not so sure I would feel the same if I had three small kids. But as for scenery, you will never go wrong in Yosemite valley.

I'll echo what Scott Nelson said about the national parks. When I was a kid one summer my family did a national parks tour. My parents bought some Eagle Pass or something that got you into any park for free. We left LA and headed for the Grand Canyon first. Then hit up Bryce, Zion and Great Basin (don't bother) in Utah. Headed up to Yellowstone and then Glacier. Then went across to Oregon and down through Redwoods, Sequoias and Yosemite. It was pretty damn awesome.

I have fond memories of going out to Lehman Caves in Nevada as a kid, camping out for a couple of nights and gathering pine nuts from the pinyon pines in the area. At least the cave is worth seeing. Better than Timpanogos cave (east of Provo) and you don't have to hike uphill for a mile to get there. Not sure if there is much else worth seeing out there, though.
