I am bumping an old thread. I saw a bit of discussion on Yosemite here (mostly from Scott R. Nelson) and thought I would see if anyone has some thoughts to share on planning a first-time trip there.
I'm looking at taking my family, with children ages 2 to 11, to the Yosemite Valley on the Fri/Sat/Sun before Independence Day. I'd like to get there Friday, stay at the lodge there in the valley on Friday and Saturday nights, and leave late Sunday morning. Does anyone have suggestions as to what might be some good things for kids to do? We would have fun just exploring for a couple of days, but I'm always interested to hear the voice of experience.
Also, any thoughts on food? I'm leaning toward bringing a cooler of food and supplementing from the restaurants/shops if needed. TIA."What are you prepared to do?" - Jimmy Malone

I made quite a few trips to Yosemite when I was a kid but the last was back in 99. There's going to be a crapload of people there during that weekend you mentioned. There's a hike to one of the falls that you can take even the toddler on. A weekend at Yosemite is a lot of hiking and withstanding a barrage of Euro BO. You can swim in some of streams but it's snow meltoff and the source isn't very far away.Originally posted by Joe Public View PostI am bumping an old thread. Beautiful place, nothing like it and you'll definitely enjoy it.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I'm not trying to make a joke about what happened, but I bet this might be one of the better times to go to Disney World in June.Part of it is based on academic grounds. A couple of thoughts,
If you get tired of hiking, you can drive to Glacier point for an amazing view from above. But that weekend it may be bumper-to-bumper traffic.
You can do some rafting just outside the park, but your kids may be a big young for that.

When the Canadian dollar was getting punished badly back in February, we booked a house in Stanhope, Prince Edward Island, on the beach, for $800 for a week. We'll be there from July 1 - July 8.
