        1) 8138 pts 5 yrs off - 262.0 km - I too picked Budapest. I figured it was Hungary or Poland, with the accents. I thought it would have resembled German more if it was in Czechia or Slovakia. I did consider there though.
        2) 9395 pts 2 yrs off - 76.1 km - I picked San Jose to hedge a bit, in case it was down south. The references to IPAs made me think it was recent. Those seem like a pretty new thing, but I really don't know. The picture quality was pretty good too.
        3) 9759 pts 1 yrs off - 22.7 km - I recognized the picture, but I had no idea where Sadam's palace was. I just picked a nicer part of Bagdad.
        4) 9559 pts 3 yrs off - 1.3 km - I figured IRA stuff. I picked a little early, although that RC device looked pretty modern and gave me pause.
        5) 9934 pts1 yrs off - 779.2 m - Wasn't too hard to get close and within the timeframe for this.

10000 0yr 35m My affinity for churches while visiting Prague paid off. I had heard of the silly walk thing in Czech and knew that the church was not in Prague, though there is one that is somewhat similar, so I went to the next biggest city and looked for streetcar tracks.
4958 41yr 1.4km Should have realized by the picture quality and many brands of alcohol that were probably not popular back in the 70s that the B&W was a deke.
9918 0yr 3.9km Year was a gimme, but never had the pleasure of visiting that fair city.
8357 6yr 1.4km I initially thought 82, but hedged back to 79 because of the cars
          9997 0yr 164m Yep

6yrs off - 184.5 km Loved this picture so much. Almost went with early 1970s when the Monty Python sketch was first aired, but a cell phone got me closer. Guessed Prague.

2 yrs off - 908.5 km First guess was England fifty years ago, but the multiple California hints and their shirts and general vibe got me a lot closer. Still, lucky.

2 yrs off - 526.1 m One of our best guided tours in the past ten years was with a guy who was shot by an IRA gunman during the Troubles. Learned a lot.

0 yrs off 577.3 m. Should have had a perfecto. From the angle it looked like it was a couple blocks north of the Empire State Building, and indeed the caption says it's on Fifth Avenue, but the game says the location was next to Seventh. Losing out on 12 points will likely be my biggest aggravation today, so I have that going for me.

              • I looked at that picture of the palace again, and it brings back so many memories. This Thursday I'll have been home 20 years now.

I love seeing the generals with their sleeves rolled up. Our leadership wouldn't allow it because that was against regs. I love the extension cords running across the marble floor to the coffee pots. Speaking of marble, I had one of those slabs of marble serving as my desktop in my tent. We borrowed some from a palace that was under construction--gave it back at the end of the year.

4878 - 54 years, 5.4 km - Saw the California clues and thought SF more likely than LA. Went with the default 1962 and thus lost all time-related points
9641 - 2 years, 14.7 km - Didn't know the exact location and figured it was during the Iraq surge. Everyone saying the year was easy - was the year displayed somewhere?
7500 - 10 years, 20.3 m - Saw a sign for Durham Street just past the car rental place on the right-hand side of the street. A decade too late.
9783 - 2 years, 851.3 m - Picked the opposite side of the Empire State Building - didn't notice any captions. The picture looked more recent than WWII to me, but not so recent as to be from the late 70s gas crisis, so went toward the end of the war.

No, for me the biggest clue was the dessert camo pattern. It's what we wore that whole first year of combat. The the Universal Camo Pattern came out in 2004. UCP was really good if you were fighting in a gravel pit.

You can also start matching up generals to when they were over there, and it's likely the meeting of the minds occured shortly after pushing through Baghdad.

                      1) 9800 pts 2 yrs off - 21.4 m - Didn't recognize the location but did recognize the drawing that help me pinpoint the exact location. I didn't see any cell phones but looked like a lot of digital cameras. That helped me get close on the year.
                      2) 7890 pts 1 yrs off - 1120.7 km - Didn't recognize the shields. I first thought of the UK but noticed the steering wheels were on the left side. I thought the one shield had three crowns which led me to Scandanavia, but I did look closer and saw they were wolfs heads or something. I ended up picking Copenhagen. I never would have gotten close to Zagreb. I did go look at a color photo after the fact. Really cool roof. Had I saw the red and white checker pattern, it may have led me over there. The colors probably would have led me away from Scandanavia.
                      3) 8359 pts 6 yrs off - 1.3 km - Didn't know much except that it was Rome. I don't remember if I was early or late.

                      5) 8172 pts 6 yrs off - 31.9 km - I guessed right in Portsmouth. I didn't look far enough out to get to Midhurst or Petworth. I guessed too early. British cars always look old to me.

9028 - 1 year, 422.3 km - Cars looked German so I went with Munich to hedge on other European locations. Default year.
9762 - 2 years, 1.1 km - Didn't recognize the cars or license plates and couldn't read any of the signs. The dark statue to the right looked Roman, so went with Rome in the default year.
9992 - 0 years, 396.4 m - Right outside the stock exchange on Wall Street.
6772 - 12 years, 32.1 km - The flag made me think Australia but I couldn't find a Portsmouth in Australia, so went with the Portsmouth I've been to. Post-WWII with the atom bomb warning sign, but didn't look late enough for the Vietnam War, so I went with the Korean conflict. Didn't even consider the Cuban Missile Crisis.

17 yrs off - 2.0 km - I got Croatia from the checker board coat of arms. I added years on because I'm always guessing too early for that region. Should have left it on default.

2 yrs off - 1.8 km - I picked the right road, but still a ways off. I would have gone with 1960, but left it on default because I'm a little stitious.

8400 6yr 4.7m Way too early. Part of my study of the Balkans during my Uncle Sam study abroad.
7536 3yr 1127.4km I felt like there was nothing, so I went with Paris.
                            9878 0yr 5.4km Way north as well
9950 1yr 3.3m The city was listed 2x. Small town so looked at satellite and got a bit lucky.

5017 - 4 years, 3914.0 km - Thought it might be on a set in LA. A few years late.
6030 - 15 years, 470.4 km - I also went with Berlin but went mid-30s since some of the stylings reminded me of Hitler.
9300 - 4 years, 47.4 m - Really lucky placement of the pin in random downtown Sydney, a few years late.
7498 - 10 years, 84.7 m - Only cancellation event that came to mind was Covid, so a decade late.
9800 - 2 years, 2.6 m - Might be the closest I've gotten the pin, but a couple years late.
