Nothing says petit bourgeois like a thread of upper middle-class white guys talking about the fancy paper they use to wipe <redacted> off their <redacteds>. Talk about the fetishization of lavatory function....please do take the time to tell us which wipes are the best and why.

    EDIT:
Please don't take my sarcasm as my saying I wouldn't use a Toto Washlet. I would.

There is a third option no-one mentioned.

Use TP for 90% of the job. When you think your close, but want to be sure, go back with TP and a dab of gel shaving creme, and really foam it up and get it clean. It'll feel great, and you'll be so clean you'll have an extra spring in your step.

        Flushable wipes

        • job done with less material
        • comfortable
        • 95% recyclable material
        • Roughly $0.04 a wipe

        Toilet Paper
        • More material to get job done.
        • uncomfortable
        • 100% recyclable
        • Roughly $0.025 a wipe.

Based on my initial data, I am leaning heavily toward flushable wipes. Is there anything else I should consider?
I'm not ashamed to preach the benefit of using flushable wipes. Using a washlet in Japan daily means that when I've left Japan (trips to China, Singapore, the US, etc.), toilet paper has quickly shown to be a painful option. I now exclusively use flushable wipes when I'm not in Japan. When I move back to the US, I'll either bring a washlet with me or I'll solely use flushable wipes.

Oh, it works, and it works well. I usually use two sheets of TP afterward to pat the area dry. The water is highly-targeted and doesn't splash anywhere. It always works. Always.

I assumed I got an all-night itchy butt rash due to the perfumes in the flushable wipe. But, perhaps it was because I failed to pat dry with tp after the wipe.

I think I smell an experiment brewing.

My FIL will take a shower after every poo. It doesn't matter if he took a shower 30 minutes ago. After reading this thread, it seems to run in the family.

FTR, FW is a little piece of heaven on earth. I recommend any and all who have not had that experience to partake.

I have no idea, nor do I care to, of my FIL's bathroom habits.

Holy crap how did I miss this thread.

I feel compelled to warn everybody here regarding disposable wipes. While they are heavenly on your nether regions, you are risking a plugged sewer lateral.

Wipes (even those labeled as disposable) do not degrade in water as quickly as typical toilet paper. When used in moderation, they are fine, but used in excess you could risk a backup.

Here is a worst-case scenario: A backup occurs in your main lateral, while you are out on an errand. Having left the washing machine on (assume a water guzzling tub washer) and reaching the rinse cycle, water is rapidly forced out of the basement toilet:

Also, if you home is on its own sewage pump or septic tank, copious use of wipes is not advisable.

Define "in moderation" How many wipes a day? That's what inquiring minds want to know.

Also, Dapper Dan, how do you use Amazon mom and get it down to .02 cents? My calculations show that link to be 3.5 cents per wipe.

I missed this thread before. But I am again reminded how much I love my Toto Washlet. Best home improvement investment I ever made.
