The insurance company will be able to sell your car, so your settlement will be less if you keep the car. Depending on how much the difference is and how much it will cost to fix is whether it is worth it to keep the car.

Yeah OK. I understand that. Not worth that hassle.Originally posted by Bo Diddley View Post

AFAIK, if the insurance company decides to total the car you will automatically get a branded title even if you pay to get it fixed.

What happened to the other daily driver car (Porsche)? I keep thinking about getting one but my overly practical side just won't let me pull the trigger. I drive the most mundane and boring mid-sized sedan available and am content driving it.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post
Well said!
We had a neighbor that would buy a new car every 1-2 years because she was worried sick that if she kept a car longer it might break down or have a mechanical issue. She wasted an insane amount of money with this obsession on reliability. The fact of the matter is that almost all cars these days have amazing reliability compared to 30-40 years ago and prioritizing that over everything else is kind of dumb, IMO.
In my case, I have a big list of cars that I would love to own, but I only want to own 2 cars at once. We had 3 cars for 2 people for 5 years and while it was kind of fun, it is a big waste of money and I am too frugal to enjoy it. At the same time, I have a list of cars that I would love to own.
My current vehicles
2021 Kia Telluride - My wife drives it during the day. Great all-around vehicle given our needs and preferences.
2007 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon - Low miles, excellent condition. Steel bumpers, winch, lift kit, 35-inch tires, after market Alpine radio with CarPlay and backup camera. We take the top and doors off in the summer and it is a blast to drive. We go to the Moab Jeep Safari and I take it hunting. It is my daily driver now.
Vehicles I would like to own
Tesla Model X or Y - These things are a blast to drive and I am intrigued by electric cars. I am sure I will own one someday, but I may wait for the solid state lithium tech to develop before I pull the trigger. Also, I hate to give that lunatic Elon Musk more money.
VW GTI with a manual transmission - I would love to have one of these as a daily driver. I miss owning a fun little car with a stick. My favorite thing to drive.
Jeep Wrangler 392 - This is a limited edition Wrangler with a 392-cubic inch V8. 470 HP and 470 ft-lb of torque. I test drove one and was blown away. My wife was horrified by how loud it is (the sound was beautiful). Cost is north of $100K.
Land Rover Defender - Sorry, CMBF. I like them.
Ford Raptor Pickup - Not a huge pickup fan, but my buddy has one of these and it is nice. 450-720 HP depending on engine choice.
I would normally include a Porsche on this list, but I already scratched that itch. It was a great car."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

We had it for 5 years and my wife and I both loved it, but ultimately decided that we were tired of owning/maintaining 3 cars for 2 people so I sold it.Originally posted by Moliere View Post

A dude in my ward has the Cybertruck. It seems pretty cool, but I will say that we used it to move some chairs and just doing that scraped up the black bed lining. Sheesh. Tesla could at least have had it come stock with something durable like rhino skin or whatever..."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I saw one on the freeway the other day on the way to Brian Head. As it passed us, what really jumped out at me was all the fingerprints on the door near the handle area. It looked exactly like when my little kids used to leave fingerprints and smudges all over our stainless steel fridge. My neighbor has one, I could possibly be convinced to purchase one after driving his. I don’t know what the usage for it would be as I don’t see how you could use it as a viable truck.Originally posted by Commando View PostA dude in my ward has the Cybertruck. We’ve had 3 Teslas a 3 - X - X and it drives like an X in my 20 mins spinning it around. The QC on it is awful, which is a staple with Teslas, but it’s not as ugly as I thought it would be. If they modified the body of the bed from that Honda Ridgeline/Escalade truck, it would be miles better. The windshield is huge but feels similar to an X, it’s just a wild truck.

YES- it definitely gives fridge vibes. But a very cool, high tech fridge that opens automatically.Originally posted by Donuthole View Post

Yeah nothing about it to me says it should have the word 'truck' in it. It should have been called like 'CyberOutback.'Originally posted by fusnik View Post

After 6-7 years now of EV ownership I’m a big fan. I’ve converted my entire family at this point with the caveat that you still have to own a GV for long trips/towing/spontaneous adventuring.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post
Exactly.
My sis sold her Defender (absolute amazing car) for an EV a couple months back and is still super stoked about her decision.
