I need a new [Truck].

I still love the M5, but driving onto a jobsite and occasionally hauling equipment is a hassle, and quite frankly a little less than "professional" in the construction industry even if it is a BMW.

I'm not selling the M5 so this will be an "extra" vehicle. I also still don't want a car payment.

So here are the new requirements. Tell me what you would recommend:

Either a used pickup or SUV - need to be able to haul dirty equipment around.

No beater - While I don't get respect on a construction site with the BMW, I'd have the same problem with a beater truck. It has to be new enough or a model that wears it's age well enough to be presentable.

4-wheel or AWD.

I still want something that is fun or interesting in some way, if that's possible for a truck.

I love my 1995 F-350 but that probably wouldn't pass the beater test. It is a great truck though.

That is the car Henrik Fisker designed for Tesla, isn't it? I didn't know it was available yet. Very nice looking car. I would love to get a Fisker Karma in a few years.

For those who don't know, Fisker designed the Aston Martin Vantage and DB8, the BMW Z8, and I believe a few Jaguars. He has a very impressive resume.

KCCoug, i see 02 to 05 Ford F250s all over the place for under 9k. They are tough and are not beater-looking. As gas prices near $5 you will see a number of new trucks for your price.

It's a late 80's Ford F-150, '87 I think. Some cheap American Racing Outlaw wheels with 35's and a lift.

KC there is a cool dark blue 250 for sale in Orem. We were driving down to the BY this evening and I saw it. How is this for lousy directions....going south on state street in Orem, you come to an ATT Spring mobile store on the northeast corner of the intersection. Turn left (east) there and the truck is in the front yard right there on your left hand side.

Only prob is that they are asking $16k, at least that is what it said on the window.

I might be down there again in a few days so I will try to snap a pic and get better info. I thought it was a tough enough lookg truck, though.

Not exactly but definitely similar. The 250 is a cool truck and has been mentioned, you can "pick up" trucks right now for deal. Is that a pic of your actual truck? Well taken care of.

I would definitely be interested in having a truck as a secondary car, but I only want one that I can destroy, scratch up, dent, etc. I don't need something as beefy as a 250 but given how inexpensively you can find a used one, what the heck?

Yeah that was my truck. I had it and the Golf pictured about the same time. I sold the Golf though before moving to Utah and kept the truck until after I was married about 6 months. I believe that truck is in Bountiful now. I saw it a few times after I sold it. The guy bought it tow his cigar boat down to Powell. He lifted it even more and put some ugly bumpers on it.

I miss both those cars. I could leave a black cloud of smoke like you wouldn't believe in that truck. I remember one time when me and Gidget were dating and we got behind a Dodge I think that floored it getting on I-15 and it starts belching black smoke out of the exhaust. Gidget, the Oregonian, says to me how disgusting that is and hopes my truck doesn't do that.

A Corolla can be used for more than a means for transportation. With a little creativity you could probably turn that $5500 from the insurance into a nice chunk of cash.

Not to turn this into a theoretical discussion, but i've come full circle on cars. From total snob, to progressively going downmarket to Prius (best car I've ever owned) to now nothing (I live in two walking cities where cars are not needed).

I think expensive/status cars just bring problems. Not to mention they cost more, do you really need them? My dad for example, after his second marriage ended, went out and bought what was admittedly a bad ass Mercedes coupe and then did another 50k of mods into it for what ended up as a 4.2-sec 0-60 screamer.

His own story is not everyone's but that car brought out every single mormon gold digger in a 700-mile radius (that is the truth) until ultimately, his third marriage occurred. I literally think that car managed to bring a once divorced woman who is quite attractive for her age out of a 30 year self imposed relationship retirement. Oh, yeah, my dad weighs well into 300lbs, probably pushing 370 now, and has all the facial charms of Fat Basterd at his elevated age (ok, that's total hyperbole, but let's just say dear old dad doesn't look so hot anymore while his brothers all resemble Michael Douglas...that part is true). Oh and my "step sisters" look generally like cheap pole dancing strippers that get 50 cent tips, not dollah bills

Any way, what's wrong with keeping it simple? My grandpa was very wealthy for his day and drove a Ford Maverick, which became my parents when he passed. My mentor, a luminary in the stock market and worth hundreds of mil, spent most of the last 30 years driving a $500 pickup that wouldn't go further than 50 miles without a problem and recently splurged on a $15,000 used car.

Here in Brazil, you drive a nice car, you're asking for problems. I think that's generally true everywhere. Fun, yes. Make you feel good? Yes. But more problems? yes.
