I am not a Toyota guy, but the new 4Runner actually looks pretty cool.

Yikes, glad everyone is okayOriginally posted by Omaha 680 View PostThe Pilot is no more. We were heading down to the Manti Temple open house early Monday morning. Weather was weird. SB just north of Spanish Fork we hit some slush/ice coming out of the HOV lane and immediately went into an unrecoverable rightward spin. After two full revolutions across all lanes of traffic at 70 mph, we were in the barrier. All airbags deployed. I feel very fortunate no one was next to us when this happened and all four of us are walking away with minor bruises and nothing else. Just heard the car was a total loss as expected. We will probably replace it with another Pilot unless there is an equivalent or better we can find in the same price range."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We have narrowed it down to the following options:
2024 Pilot
2024 Hyundai Palisade
2021-2022 certified preowned Pilot
2021-2022 certified preowned Volvo XC90 plug-in hybrid
The wife is heavily biased toward the Pilot because of its performance in our wreck but also due to the cargo space. We haven't found a match for practicality in cargo space in this class and higher classes are out of our price range. I added the Palisade because on paper and in photos it appears to match the cargo space and it is a fair bit less expensive than a new Pilot. I added the XC90 because on paper the cargo space matches the Pilot (although the pictures make me skeptical) and I would like the plug-in option to virtually eliminate my gas bill (I would use this mostly as a commuter car).
Thoughts/experience that any of you have with these models would be appreciated.

I would go Palisade over Pilot because of a general bias I have in favor of the Kia/Hyundai family of vehicles. Curious if the Telluride has been given any consideration since it appears to be a very close sibling to the Palisade and many reviews put it higher. I don't know anything about plug ins, but I like the idea of no more gas bills for a commuter, that can still take a full tank for long road trips. I assume your daily commute is less than 20 miles.“Every player dreams of being a Yankee, and if they don’t it’s because they never got the chance.” Aroldis Chapman

Easter Jeep Safari going on right now in Moab. Each year they showcase a few concept vehicles. Each of the last few years they have had an all electric wrangler with some ridiculously high HP. But this year they brought back one they had in 2016 that is pretty cool. It is a JL wrangler shortened to the length of a CJ and configured like a CJ (wheels, roll bar, seats, bumpers, etc). There are rumors that they may put it in production as a low cost model. Sign me up, please. Except not in red. Maybe a baby blue with tan seats.

This is definitely my preference. But I fear we won't be able to fit enough junk in the trunk for my wife's needs. Going to stop by a dealer in Vegas and peak in the back on our way north in a couple days. That will either eliminate the XC90 as an option or push it to the favorite.Originally posted by old_gregg View Postxc90 all day.
To answer Cope's question, my daily commute is about 15 miles one way. I know the XC90 doesn't have a huge battery, but I have plug-in capability at the house and at the office(s), so it would be rare I have to use gas for commuting. Then this would also be our road trip car hence why I don't want a second full EV.

Given the plug in capacity both at work and home, the XC90 seems to be the obvious choice. If you only need junk in the trunk for roadtrips, get a roof carrier. we have one for our van and it is nice to not have to feel like we are packed in like sardines because all the luggage is on top. If you need junk in the trunk on a daily basis, no amount of commuter savings will make up for a disgruntled wife that doesn't have room for her junk in your trunk.Originally posted by Omaha 680 View Post
