About the new board name (cougarstadium.com)

Me. I lurked on CG, but it felt like a BYU board with a few token Ute n'eer-do-wells. I've looked at Cougarboard once.

I take Surfah's approach to the rivalry: I hate BYU and hope they lose every game. That's what a rivalry is. But I have tons of connections to BYU and its fans, so BYU is constantly a part of my life. Because of that (and the general quality of posters here) this site has more appeal to me than CG or UFN which I can stomach only in small doses.

Like I said, I'm not worried about Ute fans and our hurt feelings (although that has been kind of funny). I'm worried about the Cougar fans. Have you seen the other purely cougar sports boards out there? I'm not talking about cougarboard: it is the crown jewel in the Cougar-related universe. Google others: cougarcorner.com. There are a lot of odd dudes in your fanbase. I think the threat of Utes might have been enough to keep their stink off this site.

I read a bit of the colourful story about the history of this place. Is it not ironic that it is following a wee bit of the path of its predecessor?

Seems odd to make a change. So much of the vibrancy here arose from reasonable chaps from different sides having a bit of a jab at each other, in good fun.

Now it's the old bugger off to the Utah utes, I suppose.

I guess I don't think of most of our Utes primarily as "Utes." They are people with some shared history, culture, and interests.

I think this board has crossed the Rubicon.

JL and others have cited the Utes joining the PAC12 and the demise of the rivalry as the reason to push this board off the fence and clearly into BYU territory.

If so, that's fine. If this is a casualty of the Utes joining the PAC12, not spending 1 OOC game every single year on BYU and watching the "BYU to the BIG12" thread grow like a weed, then so be it.

In the end, Ute fans on this site should have listened to their upbringings in seminary and been reminded of the words of the famous snake: "You knew what I was when you picked me up."

We really have no reason to complain that we are on the short end of a douche move.

This reminds me of the time I learned that I had no ownership interest in the board. It was 2009, and Jeff (with the approval of the EC) had just summarily dismissed Rocky. In all fairness, it may have been the right move, but it galled me that it was being done so unilaterally, especially so soon after we ditched Mike Waters for throwing his weight around too often. I thought that such a move should have come with the approval of the speakeasy members, if for no other reason than that it would have been a good gesture towards the board's core constituency. As it turns out, this place isn't a democracy. I was upset for a bit, then I came to terms with it, and life somehow went on.

A lot of the griping going on seems to be people coming to the same realization as I did. I think it was JIC who responded to my redecoration analogy by saying that some of us have helped put up the walls and windows. Certainly, those of us who have financially contributed (and I'm admittedly not one of them) might have a legitimate beef. As for the rest of us, we contributed what, exactly? Our presence? The only one of us who is so significant that Jeff owes us something simply because he decided to grace us with his presence is falafel. The rest of us would do well to respect the hospitality of our host and be good guests.
