I think this board has crossed the Rubicon.

JL and others have cited the Utes joining the PAC12 and the demise of the rivalry as the reason to push this board off the fence and clearly into BYU territory.

If so, that's fine. If this is a casualty of the Utes joining the PAC12, not spending 1 OOC game every single year on BYU and watching the "BYU to the BIG12" thread grow like a weed, then so be it.

In the end, Ute fans on this site should have listened to their upbringings in seminary and been reminded of the words of the famous snake: "You knew what I was when you picked me up."

We really have no reason to complain that we are on the short end of a douche move.

A snake is a snake is a snake and forever will be.
    Overdramatic much?

Look, I get it. If the BYU had been taken out of the board name, I'd complain too. After all, internet message boards are built for complaining. In that sense, JL's decision was genius: look at all the discussion it has provoked.

I think at the end of the day, how you feel about this issue depends largely on what side of the dying rivalry you stand on. Once hurt feeling are put aside, I'm not sure that there's any real effect.
"Sure, I fought. I had to fight all my life just to survive. They were all against me. Tried every dirty trick to cut me down, but I beat the bastards and left them in the ditch."

Yeah but it is made up of real people, with real feelings.....using fake names, and often telling fake stories.

UteStadium would be a better name, IMO. UteCountry sounds like it may be offensive to Native Americans.

Honestly? If the situation was reversed and I were among a cougar fan minority on a board called UteCougarForum that one day switched to UteCountry, I would think it's weird, but I wouldn't really care. It's just a name.

I still don't understand the reason for the name change to cougarstadium (despite the attempts to explain), but it really shouldn't matter. It's the community that makes a board. Additionally, while it is true that I would probably not actively seek out a website called UteCountry.com, as has been stated in this thread many times, most of the ute fans on this board were also members (and contributors) of boards called "cougarboard" and "cougarguard".

How many Utes came here that never posted on CG or CB? Serious question. I assumed most all of you knew you were stepping into enemy territory and were comfortable with that.

Now, Bishop Vandelay, when members came to you telling them they felt hurt, was your first response to tell them they were silly to feel hurt?

                    • I can see where JL is coming from in this publish or perish society. Since 2009 cougarboard has grown leaps and bounds on the backs of inane 20 and 30 somethings, and CUF has grow old and stale with the 40, 50, 60, and 80's (71) somethings talking about the nuances of applewood versus mesquite wood pellets. In a gnapper inspired move, Lebowski has filed papers, gotten a boob job, injected botox, and is hailing a younger crowd to fill his void.

To me, it's just not the Utah Fans being pushed asided, it's a clarion call for the younger crowd to come and rehash the last 5 years all over again. CB 2.0, CUF 2.0, it don't matter, there's No Country for Old Men.

                      • I move for the immediate expulsion of all Ute fans.

Kicking them out now would be a kindness, really. Put them out of their misery now instead of watching them writhe and suffer for the next who knows how long, waiting for the magic moment when they realize things HAVE changed and the change is significant enough for them to leave anyway.

I nominate DU Ute as the first to get the guillotine.

I was on both uf.net and cb about three months before joining here. I was invited by dnf, and found I liked chatting with adults much more.

I can see a guy (frankly I might fall into this category or at least I would have 5-10 years ago) who is a Ute fan who came here after the CG split and never frequented CB and is the type of guy who doesn't really follow BYU much and doesn't care to talk about them, I can see that guy getting pissed at the board change and maybe dropping off. It's a genuine question if there are any of those types here. I see most of you guys posting on BYU topics and I don't keep you all straight.

                            • how much traffic comes from the url, anyway? seems like this place mostly survives on referrals; very few people make their way here just from a google search. seems like a pretty insignificant change, but that makes the fact that jl though it was necessary more confusing.

Me. I lurked on CG, but it felt like a BYU board with a few token Ute n'eer-do-wells. I've looked at Cougarboard once.

I take Surfah's approach to the rivalry: I hate BYU and hope they lose every game. That's what a rivalry is. But I have tons of connections to BYU and its fans, so BYU is constantly a part of my life. Because of that (and the general quality of posters here) this site has more appeal to me than CG or UFN which I can stomach only in small doses.

Like I said, I'm not worried about Ute fans and our hurt feelings (although that has been kind of funny). I'm worried about the Cougar fans. Have you seen the other purely cougar sports boards out there? I'm not talking about cougarboard: it is the crown jewel in the Cougar-related universe. Google others: cougarcorner.com. There are a lot of odd dudes in your fanbase. I think the threat of Utes might have been enough to keep their stink off this site.
