I was wrong about at least one thing here though, I said I anticipated I would still post on CG and I'm not sure when the last time I did that was. Around Christmas I think. I think we have a pretty nice thing going here that we all share the credit for, even (maybe especially) the masterbumper.

That's a dodge. We are talking about this community.

Give me one good reason why MW can't post over here. Keep in mind that he actively posted on CB for a long time after he created CG. You seem to be thriving here. Why not Mike?

I'd love it if Waters would post here (the religion discussions here are no where close to what we had on CG). Hopefully the CUF founders have extended an olive branch. I'm not saying he necessarily deserves a peace offering, but CUF no doubt owes its success to Mike/CG.

If people think of MW as a prophet, or that they purchased shares of MW Inc., then you would be on to something. But if CUF is anything, it is evidence that people wanted a democratic community. I was probably the first to point out that CUF would be a more interesting place if MW were here, but we are thriving without him.

What is MW without a captive audience? A man with an extensive gun collection who rues socialism and looks forward to the day when all hell breaks loose and his church has to gather its flocks in Missouri to build a new 'kingdom.' In other words he is a millennialist who is waiting, as generations of millennialist have done before, for the world to prove him right. His ego is so huge that he would rather continue in that morbid, self-destructive death spiral than give up controlling power and join a community that loves him.

Trading morbidity for a loving community. That will be MW's legacy.

This community is not a democracy, though. Nobody elected you and you have no term limits.

Ironically, this site is CG 2.0, regardless of whatever it was mikewaters was pretending to have planned for his website. CUF is CG, but with more balanced leadership.

            But it isn't a democracy.

It is far more of a democracy than CG.

Feel free to start a movement to vote me out. That's fine by me. I would be happy to turn the reigns over to someone else. Thrilled, in fact.

Why is Tex getting a pass for trying to slither back here? He showed up on day 1 and voiced his indignation, then took off back to CG. Why is he here now?

Of course, I know the answer. CUF is the better offering and Tex made a big mistake. It is good to see Tex admit his mistakes.

It is an oligarchy. I don't claim it to be a true democracy. Still, it has republican facets to it. When the executive committee acts at all, which is extraordinarily rare, it doesn't do it without putting the question to the SE.

In fact, it is rare for us to even really discuss anything with each other and when we do the dynamic is SO conservative (that is, do nothing to upset the current order) that 99% of the time no one even knows there was an issue.

I disagree that we are CG 2.0, however. I think there is a pretty different culture here. SU would probably say it is somewhat less interesting and maybe there is a little truth to that. We may have traded some of the agitators for more civility and stability. Then again, exey found his way here.

If this is true, I might as well go back to CB today, and I think many posters here will end up gravitating back to CG in time.

I have been wrong before and don't have a good enough feel for CG to be certain, but I came to this site hoping it offered something unique. I still think that and expect CUF will thrive despite its origins.

You are right, however, that CUF is not a democracy. But for the record, I have never done anything (policy-wise) without a consensus of the committee. See UD's post.
