Sorry for setting you up DD! The best thing to do with Babs' point (mostly correct) and her attitude in making the point (which I guess is not appreciated by most people here, who probably think it should have been made via PM, instead of making a welcome and valued newb feel overly self-conscious about what it means to participate on this really nice and fun and overall easygoing board), is to ignore it completely, and to only consider it as if it had been sent by PM instead of what was done.

I am not quite sure why you feel qualified to decree what should or should not be done publicly. I think this sort of public discussion is appropriate.

No one wants devil dog to feel 'overly self-conscious.' In fact, it seems to me he was handling it just fine and I am not sure it is productive to let him know you think he is feeling self-conscious.

This place is one that relies almost exclusively on self-regulation. The line is vague and it can and does move from day to day and person to person and thread to thread. But we all need to remember that there is a line and try to keep the large bulk of what happens here on the correct side of it. As moderators we let almost everything go. OTOH, we do try to convince posters that some language or approaches are inappropriate. While we appreciate that some of you come from a Drill Sargent background, this is not boot camp and that approach will typically not be appropriate here.

No one is asking DD or anyone else, including you Robin, not to post or to change their nature. But as a group we are asking that everyone use a modicum of self restraint, good taste and post within reason, trying not to offend and, more importantly, trying to encourage a climate that allows everyone to feel comfortable being here.

We do not provide a set of specific rules, but we do expect that posters will behave within reason and no one should be surprised if use of language that is misogynistic or racist, etc., is called out.

DD, I think it safe to say that the large majority of the board is glad you are here and we look forward to your posts. Diversity of thought and background is always appreciated.
