So here is my introduction. John McClain is my name because I am a "die hard" BYU fan. I attended the U of U for my undergraduate work; primarily because I had a full time job working as a cameraman for KSL TV. Fled the U to attend law school at BYU. But I have always rooted for the Y, having first attended football games in the old stadium where the Richards building now is. I remember Eldon the Phantom Fortie! I have been an attorney from a time when not everyone was an attorney. Point in fact, of the 159 people who passed the bar with me, only about 50 are still actively practicing law, myself among them. I am a trial attorney and I represent both Plaintiffs and Defendants . Like the attorney who witnessed a car accident, I saw the whole thing and I will take either side. I am an active LDS member, counting myself fortunate to be so. I have been married 35 years, have 6 great kids and 10 wonderful grandchildren with hopefully many more on the way.
When it comes to sports, college football is my fix for my OCD. I also love cycling, both on the road and trail. I served my mission in France and Belgium and rode my bike on the same farm roads as the Paris Roubaix. Started mountain biking on a 45 lb fully rigid bike and can't believe I used to clean the Slickrock Trail on that thing. I also enjoy College Basketball to keep me occupied in the winter. Don't talk to me about baseball or hockey; I avoid them assiduously. I like to ski, but time and money keep me from doing it regularly. I have completed 10 marathons, numerous triathlons, some quadrathlons, century rides, time trials, off road triathlons, etc. I used to be fast; now I enjoy the scenery. I hiked the length of the Highline trail in the Uintahs upon completion of law school and have backpacked many wonderful places in Utah, Colorado and New Mexico
I live in New Mexico and love it. I have had offers to return to Utah and have turned them down. The weather, food, green chile and my job keep me in the Land of Enchantment. Nonetheless, it is only days drive to SLC and I get there often, especially with two daughters and numerous grandchildren living on the Wasatch Front.
I have maintained my love of France, from the days of my mission, and still speak French fluently ( I represent many French companies doing business in the US). I am a dang good French food cook; ask my family.
My politics are moderate. I consider myself an independent. In Utah I might be considered on the liberal side, but in New Mexico I am definitely a centrist.
As for character flaws, I have many. I am vain, egotistical, sometimes contrarian and cranky. I can be very rude when the mood strikes. I generally do not suffer fools gladly (which begs the question of why I am on an internet message board). As queried by Son of Perdition, I do pee in sinks if necessary; I crap in the woods and anywhere else if my IBS hits while I am out running. I belch and fart with abandon in the privacy of my home.
So there you have it; I have laid myself naked before you and I don't even feel embarrased. I think it will be fun to be here.
