BYU - Florida State thread

This is not a troll, just an honest question/observation. i haven't been to a game in LES since the late 70s, and I rarely watch BYU home games on TV. Yesterday, with BYU way behind and things getting worse, I kept seeing Y fans acting like the whole thing was a party. Did I see an accurate representation? If so, is that typical? In a way, I think it's kind of healthy not to let what's happening on the field ruin your day, but what I saw seemed oddly incongruous, almost weird.

yeah... we were in a great mood for about 2 1/2 quarters, then we turned around and saw a big mushroom cloud out on the field. I mean, really there's nothing you can do. It's not like it was neck and neck and a little boost from the crowd was going to turn the tide. In times of trauma, there is a little emotional disconnect that occurs. I think that's what you observed.

BYU misses out on building the fan base and new revenue streams. "I AM A COUGAR" shirts would sell world wide.

"COUGARS UNITED" would be a lot better, maybe with a likeness of any one of the former "Friends" chicks.

I don't know if it's my new seats (I am in the north endzone now vs. the west stands) but the energy seemed really different from the get go. Even from before kickoff ... comared to say the UCLA game last year. No comparison.

That said, when your team gets owned that badly ... what else do you do?

An indicator of how much it sucked to be there through the bitter end? Towards the end of the 4th quarter, the cheerleaders from both teams did the thing where they guy hold the girls up with one hand and see how long they can last. It came down to one BYU and one FSU guy. When the BYU guy won the whole crowd cheered like it was a TD.

My opinion on the game:

I put zero responsibility on Hall and the offense. In fact I thought Hall was havinga stellar game. The pick to George (I have not seen any replays) was allegedly PI, the other pick JJ should have caught, and the last one you really cant blame him for trying to make a play that late with the game already over.

I have never in my life seen BYUs D-line get manhandled like that. The D-line and linebackers were atrocious. Even when they did get in a positioin to make a play they were missing tackles (Shawn Doman and Tevita Hola I am looking at you).

Its unbelievable to see a hole completely stuff and because the O-line was getting such good push the running back would still end up with 4 yards. Or because we got zero penetration the running back would just sit back and bounce it outside.

The Chambers fumble was a pretty big turning point as I felt like we could hang in there in a track meet. Our offense was on point, and Mckay Jacobsen proved just how fast he is tonight, seperating from a 4.3 corner in Patrick Robinson (twice).

I havent looked at the stats but I am guessing FSU started at least 15-15 on 3rd downs which is ridiculous.

I think we still win 10-11 games, but I worry about CSU as they have 120 starts between their O-line and they return everybody similar to FSU.

When Hola whiffed that sack on 3 & 7 coming off that blitz, it was at that point in the game that I decided it was over. It was still very early, but with the way the D was playing it seemed that once FSU went up 2 scores we were never going to catch up.

The remote almost went through the wall on that play.

Do you mean Pitta or George? That first pick he was throwing to George.

It looked like from my point of view that the corner stepped on Georges heel, causing him to lose his shoe as they both were going for the ball. It made George slip a bit and he was off to the races.

My view wasn't great so that may not have been what happened.

I think that fits into the falling tree in the forest category. If your wife or bishop didn't hear you, you didn't say it

I think that's the one where most of the secondary was in the pile from the up the middle run ... when he bounced outside there was nobody there. I think Logan finally ran him down.

I dropped a large collection of f-bombs on that play. And I also said that we were done and I hoped secretly that I was not correct. I think that play was emblematic of our entire defensive effort. No heart, no hustle, terrible tackling.

That was one play where Bills was completely lost. He just ran straight into the pile.

How about the sequence of plays after Halls pick 6. Anae calls a fullback dive for Kariya almost looked like he thought it was 3rd and 1. Then he calls a run to JJ, and follows that up by 20 yard outs on 3rd and 7. Three and out, we have to punt for hte first time. That was really weird in what I thought was prett good playcalling throughout.
