The salient point is made that our odds of success would go up substantially were we to score more than 3 points in the second half.

Its a pretty gimmicky offense that had to be hard to prepare for in two days. I think if we had a week we do much better on defense but that is not an excuse for us getting owned in the trenches. On offense in particular I thought the line would be the difference for us, but it was the difference for them. Sigh.

I agree. The defense could have played better, but holding them to 22 points should have been enough for this offense to outscore.

Everyone on the O had their share. Rex getting beat and holding on the first play. Allegier's fumble. Poor choices by Zach (although I blame him less than most the rest of the offense). Drops by the receivers. Running backward like 30 yards. Playcalling.

I think this is spot on. Very difficult team to prepare for in one, likely not very productive, day. The line work verged on embarrassing though. I don’t know enough about football to know how much of that can be chalked up to scheme and prep time though.

The circumstances—not playing a real team in three weeks and having so little time to prepare, and the pressure of how important this game was—have to have something to do with that, but it’s hard not to wonder what might have been if some of that stuff had been cleaned up. If we had played a clean game and lost, I think I would have felt a lot better. I still am not too worked up about it (this wasn’t a bad loss), but it is frustrating to think about what might have been with a win.

Yeah given all the circumstances it's not a bad loss. But when you also consider what was at stake, it's not going to sit well for a long time.

Yep. But it was still absolutely the right decision to play this game, despite its risks, given the disrespect the committee had given us. I think it was a much more difficult task than anyone on BYU’s side anticipated, but I do believe it was our only chance of getting into a NY6 game. It will be hard to forget about what could have been, and I wish things would have turned out differently, but we were put in an almost impossible situation and came up a little bit short. Agree that won’t sit well for a long while.

the pressure of how important this game was—

This goes back to my hunch that BYU teams of the last decade are psychologically soft. This is the only way to explain the 9 straight losses to Utah. With that many close games it's just not statistically likely that all the breaks go to Utah. They can only over perform when there is no pressure. But I just don't have the football smarts to assess these things.

BYU will be respected for taking this game. We are better off for taking it and losing close than not taking it. But the respect is more a pat on the head and nice try BYU but you are basically what we thought you were. That is what is so frustrating because a win would have made more people believe.

I didn’t record game, came home and rushed to do play by play for local High School. I was pa announcer however since Idaho is in stage three I didn’t do pa. Only ten people are to show up, More find there way. Some schools are saying to hell with it. A bar up by were Jerry Kramer played college ball small town said to hell with that.

I had headset and since game was webcast put it on coat and did play by play. Took coat off and put headset on state Championship sweater and people could not hear tell I moved headset up.

We did annual holiday tournament we always do. I did play by play for central Idaho town by craters of the moon first lit by atomic power. David B Haights Alma mater is frequent guest too they won it. Some people from DBH,S old stomping grounds sat in front of me and they had BYU game on phone on part of the time so I glanced over there. During timeout since there was no commercials I had to admin and Sid BYU lost.

I hope that, during your play-by-play call, you use the same team nicknames as you do here.

During the game, I was livid at a few things.

1) 2nd and 4 from mid-field, calling two trick plays leading to our turning it over on downs. They scored a TD on the short field. Brutal. I realize Romney catches that ball 95 out of 100 times. But Zach had so much green grass in front of him he could have run a very long way. That's a good play call for an over aggressive D on 4th and 1. But there was really no reason to risk the pass.

2) The backwards run. Bonehead error that cost us the possession and critical field position by a player who had not played a significant role yet in his career. Hopefully this is not his defining moment as a cougar.

After the final play ended on the 1 yd line, I wasn't really mad anymore. I just smiled and felt OK with the effort under the circumstance. Zach was money on that last drive. Just wish he had thrown to a player in the end zone.

Another Kalani loss to a team with lesser talent. But he's had a few go the other way too. Just make sure it doesn't carry over to SDSU. I don't like them.

I really wish we had a couple days to game plan-- we really looked baffled. All these weapons and no idea how to use them. I wish we hadn't punted and I wish we'd attempted to replicate that 95-yard touchdown that was called back. That's all.
