Max Hall is more than adequate. Like Indy said, nobody is perfect and no one is going to play perfect every game. Athletes have bad showings. He's done a terrific job as a BYU quarterback, and I am behind him 100%. Put it this way, no one has ever even thought about going to someone else like Gaskins, let alone bringing the matter openly. He's our guy. Get behind him.

I don't think you can pre-plan those sorts of speeches. How do you apologize for ending the Sooners season on opening day?

I don't know. Tye Gunn managed alright. Surely you guys can keep pace with the frogs.

I haven't read all the posts, so maybe somebody already said this, but he is better than Beck. Max is a pretty good QB. He had two really horrible games to end the season, that has left a bad taste. Couple that with an impossible schedule to start this season and BYU fans will misguide more hate at Hall than any QB except maybe John Walsh.

At this point in their respective careers, that is certainly true.

Max is a pretty good QB. He had two really horrible games to end the season, that has left a bad taste. Couple that with an impossible schedule to start this season and BYU fans will misguide more hate at Hall than any QB except maybe John Walsh.

I doubt it. If he struggles against Oklahoma, no one is going to crucify him. If he struggles against FSU as well, there will be some grumbles. If he struggles against Tulane to complete the trifecta, then you're right, there will be a lot of venom directed towards him.

I really worry about the Tulane game. I know on paper this seems like it should be an easy W, as Tulane is one of the worst teams in the country. However when I think of how many times BYU has won east of the Mississippi, on turf or in a dome, I start to think that the Tulane game is where the 2009 BYU season goes to crap.

I don't get all the hate directed at John Walsh. From this Ute fan's perspective, he didn't lose games for BYU, the defense did.

However when I think of how many times BYU has won east of the Mississippi, on turf or in a dome, I start to think that the Tulane game is where the 2009 BYU season goes to crap.

If Max plays like a third-year starter, BYU shouldn't have a problem.

He went 6-6 in a season where the BYU defense gave up 37 ppg, including losing 4 straight where they gave up an average of 55 ppg, only to break the streak by holding SDSU to 44 points and winning 45-44.

I've never heard much of anything directed at Walsh, either good or bad. Do BYU fans badmouth him to you?

How many BYU teams led by a senior qb have lost games to teams as bad as Tulane, anywhere? UTEP is about the only team a BYU team with a senior qb lost to that really sucked. Certainly BYU has lost some games to teams they should have beaten with a senior qb on the road, but I am struggling to see why anyone should put more stock in the cluster that was the 2000 season than other years that probably share more similarities to this year.

BYU fans, I'm curious, do you like Max as quarterback?

I was talking to an LDS gentleman today, and I asked him about the upcoming game. He soured immediately and said he's sworn off BYU football so long as Max is under center. He said he thinks Max is a lousy quarterback. I was kind of surprised by this. Is this a fairly common sentiment that I've just missed up til now? Or is this guy an aberration?

Only problem he has had in the past is locking in on a receiver early on and not recognizing blind side pressure.

I don't recall if we were ever ahead in that game, but if we were, keep the ball on the ground and out of the hands of the Tulsa offense, which obviously couldn't stop.

That's what an offensive coordinator should do. Protect his defense when they suck.
