A question.... Is BYU part of the G5 agreement? IE that at least one G5 team has to make a NY6 bowl. I seem to remember BYU had not joined in that agreement.

Well with their late start it probably wouldn’t have been enough help in this situation, but Cinci is benefiting from their shitty conference affiliation right now. It’s a perception game and BYU wins the beauty pageant with conference guaranteed access in most situations. Also Wyoming’s committee member wouldn’t be so spiteful and would be an ally or at least have to recuse himself.
If in the MWC we likely don’t schedule Texas state, north Alabama, or UTSA. It’s a perception game and conference affiliation helps. The best games on our schedule this year are games we would have in a conference. We could still schedule a couple 2-3 p5 per year which is more than enough for the NY6 perception.
The way you truly change the nations perception of you is by playing in big time bowl games and winning. (See Utah, and TCU). We won’t ever play in those games without guaranteed access.

Nope. No access to that agreement. Would have happily joined if presented.Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostA question.... Is BYU part of the G5 agreement? IE that at least one G5 team has to make a NY6 bowl. I seem to remember BYU had not joined in that agreement.

The MWC is atrocious this year. We would be no better off schedule wise if we were in the MWC this year.Originally posted by Flystripper View PostWell with their late start it probably wouldn’t have been enough help in this situation, but Cinci is benefiting from their shitty conference affiliation right now. If we'd been in the MWC this season, we would only have played a handful of games so far and would not be ranked even as high as 14.Originally posted by Flystripper View PostWell with their late start it probably wouldn’t have been enough help in this situation, but Cinci is benefiting from their shitty conference affiliation right now. You read my first sentence right? It’s perception and politics and it’s a long-term issue.Originally posted by UVACoug View PostThe MWC is atrocious this year. We would be no better off schedule wise if we were in the MWC this year.

As much as I'm sure Zach Wilson is headed for the NFL at the end of the season - I'd be OK if this CFP committee ranking business pissed him off enough he decided to come back and prove them wrong next season with a better schedule.
I don't see it happening. But I'd be OK with it.

So I can't even keep up anymore on the "shit that happened to BYU" drama this week. I guess Colorado scheduled SDSU this weekend. So the narrative is BYU ran away scared from UW. Then they got the ranking they deserved in CFP rankings. Then SDSU declined to play BYU early because they are toxic and scheduled Colorado instead. And BYU can't play a good PR game because they need the PAC-12 and MWC teams that are actively creating a damaging narrative of BYU to hurt their reputation this year. Did I get that right?

Seems more likely that SDSU chose CU because it gets them another game. Moving our game up doesn't. And of course CU would pick a win vs SDSU over an ass whipping from us.Originally posted by USUC View PostSo I can't even keep up anymore on the "shit that happened to BYU" drama this week. I know what's likely, but any journalist/fan base/AD department in the West that can push the negative narrative, will.Originally posted by Omaha 680 View PostSeems more likely that SDSU chose CU because it gets them another game. But I have to say, SDSU fans online are crowing that their team actually follows the "anytime anywhere" mantra all the while showing where they stand in the college football world by being a bitch to the PAC-12.

When you start caring what SDSU’s student section thinks, you care too much.Originally posted by USUC View PostI know what's likely, but any journalist/fan base/AD department in the West that can push the negative narrative, will.
