People listen more to people with power or in positions of prominence. Why do you think so many bishops are doctors, successful businessmen, lawyers, etc.?

    • There are so many problems with the statistics Bronco is trotting out it's mind boggling. How many of those recruits even wanted to go on missions? What is the percentage of athletes who change their minds about mission plans at these schools one way or he other compared to BYU? Why is Bronco even comparing his program to BCS schools in the first place? If he thinks they are on par with BCS schools shouldn't Utah be thrown into the statistical mix? I'm anxious to see if the mystical, magical sway the BYU football program seems to have over its players can get Heaps into the mission field. If Bronco thinks it's better for him to play ball than be called to serve why doesn't this attitude apply to the talented LDS kids who choose to play elsewhere?

Which is most likely why he ended up at ND instead of USC.

Time permitting, I would ask why Max Hall quit his mission then found safe haven at BYU.

All of those would be very relevant facts, esp in light of Bronco's claims.

I wonder how Bronco would explain the discrepancy?
Because in reality the most important consituency is the one that wants to win. They provide the money and the bulk of the butts in the stands.

The other constituency provides the permission to have a program.

This has been stated before, but I think the stats are relevant only for the kid who professes to want to serve a mission. Bronco points out that if that is really his desire, he's got a much smaller chance of actually going if he goes to a school other than BYU. I wouldn't go spouting these stats off to every recruit who's LDS, though. Only those that affirmatively state they want to go on a mission.

I do not defend his use of these stats in a press conference, however.

Dale Murphy was a convert to the LDS Church and did not attend BYU. He was introduced by your sexier partner in crime, double B...that would be Barry Bonnell.

Todd Christenson's mission years were before President Kimball needed to up the sales force in order to lengthen the stride by making mission service a commandment/culturally mandated coming of age event. Giff Nelson also might have been right in that time frame so he might have been 21 or 22 when Pres Kimball threw down on mission service. Wilson ignored as did Young. Boscoe was either an inactive mormon or a nonmember when he came to the BYU, but certainly was activated or converted early enough to take his rugged good looks and physique out to bring the world his truth, so he also ignored. Danny Ainge was contractually bound with his pro baseball contract, but he knew that before he signed so he probably ignored as well.

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

Murphy didn't go to BYU, he converted while he was in the minors. I won't have you drag my childhood hero's name through the mud like this!

But I am attributing at least some responsibility to the head coach. it is his gig. He is the host for the weekend. He is the one in charge. It is his program.
Bronco is the captain of the ship that is BYU football. If it happened on his ship, he is responsible.

Right. I find it interesting that "religious" people believe in the same thing that "liberals" believe in, lala land. I am not talking about heaven here. I believe in heaven.

What they do believe in though is somebody speaking by the spirit and teenagers and college kids are touched in the heart and move onto the higher calling. Libs think you mention the greater good and it just happens.

I swear there are BYU fans that think if you fielded all RM's and they were in touch with the spirit, they could win the NC.

More than one person is responsible for something like this.

What about Hans Olson. I think that is the real reason BYU fans dislike him. He didn't serve a mission.
