The two aren't mutually exclusive I guess. He could be a great recruiter, a banner-wielding BOM thumper, and a successful coach. Time will tell I guess.

Well the distraction wasn't too great, given that Navy won, again.Originally posted by UVACoug View PostNavy's Athletic Director doesn't sound too happy with KN right now. Not a good way to convince him to stick around, in my opinion.

I thought he also coached some high school teams which have fared poorly.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostIs there a reason to believe these Ty as OC rumors? If it wasn't for that stoopid wide receiver pass Army tried at the end they could of maybe won it...Originally posted by creekster View PostWell the distraction wasn't too great, given that Navy won, again.
Then Navy would have fired KN and BYU could have picked him up for a bargain."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

Seriously that is lame. KN now 8-0 against Army -- he should tell his AD to stfu.Originally posted by creekster View PostWell the distraction wasn't too great, given that Navy won, again.
It might be nice to have a coach who can beat his rival. But I watched most of that Army-Navy game and gotta say I wasn't a big fan of some of the coaching decisions. Punting on 4th and short near midfield repeatedly and punting from inside the opponent's 40? Army kept getting the ball right back in a play or two to the same field position where Navy should have gone for it.

How about fullback dive on 3rd and 9, 3rd and 6, 3rd and 8. Pretty much every third down. I would lose my mind if he brought that to BYU.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostSeriously that is lame. KN now 8-0 against Army -- he should tell his AD to stfu.

I am not sure what to think about Ken N. This is going to be an interesting hire. Lots of pressure on Tom right now."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Here's my perspective, I could be wrong on some of this.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostIs there a reason to believe these Ty as OC rumors? If so is there a real reason, not "well he was an NFL backup for a long time", to believe he knows anything about running an offense?
Ty retired almost ten years ago from the NFL. At the time, he was considered a hot coaching commodity because of his intelligence and having worked in many college and NFL systems, even considered a quasi-assistant coach in some of his later roles.
But then Ty didn't go into coaching and opted for the easy life, spending his NFL fortune, spending time with his family and hunting.
At some point, he got into high school coaching and has been a head coach for a high school in Texas for several years. I guess he's had pretty good success, though I don't know how competitive his division is.
I get the feeling he's a bit lazy, and could lack motivation to go the extra mile in recruiting, game planning, etc, which separates successful coaches. I don't know how relevant his football knowledge and coaching is at this point. But at one point in his life, he was considered as being one of the top potential offensive coaches in the game, and he has translated that to success at some level in high school.
As for whether he would be interested, I heard an interview within the last year, that almost seemed like he was begging for the chance to coach at BYU. Seemed at least in that interview that he was interested.

As long as he converts on 3rd downs I guess I wouldn't care what he calls... http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/699Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostHow about fullback dive on 3rd and 9, 3rd and 6, 3rd and 8. I heard that during an interview, he said that if he were going to get into coaching at the college level, now would be the time. I didn't hear the interview, so I don't know how accurate the quote is. If it's accurate, that might be part of what's driving the speculation.Originally posted by jay santos View PostHere's my perspective, I could be wrong on some of this.

Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
