On the bright side, Nebraska had a good opening series. That's something to build on, no?

    • If we somehow hired Urban Meyer I'm checking out for a while. Couldn't support that guy even at Nebraska.

This is crazy talk. Can only be born of ugly anti-Ute tribalism. He was fired after half a season coaching an NFL team, so now he's a pariah. Bullshit. It's happened before. See, e.g., Nick Saban. Peter Carroll and Belichick were fired from their first NFL gigs. Some of his Florida players were arrested you say? Where do you think most great football players come from nowadays? Most of them are not Lebowski's neighbors in Alpine or the like. Nowadays football is mostly a way out for the poor, and virtually all of Urban Meyer's players were presented that opportunity and were better off for having played for him. Petty crime is poverty's handmaiden, which is why the death penalty used to be administered for stealing bread. And most of those were just arrests for petty offenses with no convictions or even charges filed.

Stop believing social media myths. You used to be smart. What happened to you?

Not everything is about the Utes, you weirdo. Like the rest of the country most of the time I don't even remember Urban coached at Utah. Every college coach deals with discipline issues and crime on their teams. But Meyer's history of coverups and excuses is gross, the worst of which didnt involve players but an alleged wife-beating assistant coach friend.

          • Urban is a great coach, but who in their right mind defends his morality or motivation?

Urban has been a mediocre person for quite some time now. Go Kyle.

If Nebraska hired Urban Meyer and he coached the Huskers to a B1G conference title in his first 3 years, I would be joyful. Most every HC will come with baggage and commit sins while coaching. Devaney has skeletons in his closet with Johnny Rodgers. Same with Tom Osborne and Lawrence Phillips. Maybe Scott Frost did not have any which might explain why his teams never defeated a ranked team. Bring on Urban Meyer and give him a chance at redemption!

                • Don't worry guys. Talking about Urban Meyer is a rite of passage for every coaching change. Doesn't mean it is likely.

Maybe we should have a poll. So far PBW and SU are on the record that you can't win unless you go easy on criminals on your team because the best talent is from poor neighborhoods and poor people obviously are gonna crime it up. Anyone else have this enlightened view?

                      • I just noticed the first post in this thread was PBW responding to me and it is all very sad. When Solich was fired 19 years ago in November I was pissed and thought we were playing with fire blowing up 35+ years of continuity only 2 years removed from the National Championship game. But I had no idea the floor I feared was so low. We have not even found it yet.

I'll just agree to disagree with you over Frank Solich. Solich had other HC offers before 1997 and I wish he would have taken one of them. Then Nebraska would have had additional data to judge Solich as a HC when Tom Osborne retired. More importantly, Osborne would have most likely kept coaching a few more years instead of following through with his promise to retire and hand over the reins to Solich after the 1997 season. My preference back in 1997 was to lure Barry Alvaraz away from Wisconsin or hire Bob Stoops. As great a coach as Osborne was, he was not gifted when it came to choosing head coaches (Solich, Bo Pelini). I respect what Solich has done at U.Ohio - they are naming their field after him. But U.Ohio was the limit for Solich just like DC (not HC) was the limit for Pelini.

Having said that, I agree with you that firing Solich after the 2003 season has been a disaster. And like you, I thought Scott Frost was the remedy for Nebraska's woes. Mark Stoops is my pick for next HC at Nebraska should Urban Meyer and his gang of criminals not be available.

Add Bob Stoops and Bill Cowher to that same list.

i actually don’t think it’s out of the question that Bronco ends up at Nebraska. Didn’t he apply there at some point? I’d imagine that if they wanted him it might be a place he’d go.

                            • Most crimes happens because of poverty. I'm not afraid to say it and will keep saying it. It's demonstrably true that poverty and crime are linked and recognizing that is actually enlightened and progressive. If that doesn't make sense to you you're dumb.

Nor is this the same thing as saying that poor people are criminals. If you don't get that distinction you're really dumb.

Moreover it's likewise demonstrably true that most great collegiate football players come from poorer socioeconomic classes.

These things are just true. I can't help it if some people here don't get it or don't like learning it.

Important life lesson. There is no floor. Things can always get worse.
