Unless there are revamping of the rules quickly, we are going to see a lot of old school coaches “retire” before next season is my prediction. The recruiting days of over promising and under delivering in recruiting are over. The days of kids willing to sit and develop are over.
A lot of these kids were getting paid under the table and it kept things that much more quiet in how coaches treated some of their players. Now it’s out in the open and no consequences for transferring means coaches have to change their approach. That’s especially difficult for the Dabo and Saban types. I think Whittingham falls under that umbrella also. It’s difficult to change all you’ve known, especially when you’ve got millions in your bank account, angry boosters and grandchildren growing up too fast.
Staffs will look more like what BYU basketball has put together. More professional less college mindset. More development and less student focused. It’s coming for both football and football unless the transfer rules are adjusted quickly.
My prediction is that this offseason will see a lot of high level coaching jobs open up that will impact all of college football. That’s why we need to be worried about Jay Hill leaving more than anything. It’s like what happened in basketball in April. Domino effect. It’s going to create havoc. Through this, new or renewed powers will emerge. I like where BYU is in this world regardless of Kalani or a new coach is in place. BYU is well positioned going forward.

I am having a blast. What makes you think I’m not enjoying this?
