Unless there are revamping of the rules quickly, we are going to see a lot of old school coaches “retire” before next season is my prediction. The recruiting days of over promising and under delivering in recruiting are over. The days of kids willing to sit and develop are over.

A lot of these kids were getting paid under the table and it kept things that much more quiet in how coaches treated some of their players. Now it’s out in the open and no consequences for transferring means coaches have to change their approach. That’s especially difficult for the Dabo and Saban types. I think Whittingham falls under that umbrella also. It’s difficult to change all you’ve known, especially when you’ve got millions in your bank account, angry boosters and grandchildren growing up too fast.

Staffs will look more like what BYU basketball has put together. More professional less college mindset. More development and less student focused. It’s coming for both football and football unless the transfer rules are adjusted quickly.

My prediction is that this offseason will see a lot of high level coaching jobs open up that will impact all of college football. That’s why we need to be worried about Jay Hill leaving more than anything. It’s like what happened in basketball in April. Domino effect. It’s going to create havoc. Through this, new or renewed powers will emerge. I like where BYU is in this world regardless of Kalani or a new coach is in place. BYU is well positioned going forward.

CJF, get a grip, buddy. We are having a fun season. Roll with it.

I wonder if Jay Hill's health scare has changed his mind about becoming a HC again? He will clearly be near the top of anyone's list after what he's done this year and we know he's the type of guy who could and should be in charge of a program. But maybe that extra stress isn't worth it to him going forward, especially if he can leverage a huge raise to remain DC.

That’s my hope also. But he deserves it if he wants it. I do think BYU is in a great place to replace Hill with a talented DC if he does leave. Edwards replaced talent with talent. I think BYU can and will do so here again.

Yeah, BYU is in a great position... We have deep pockets funding our player's NIL deals and paying our pro coaches. If Kalani gets tempted to jump to greener pastures somewhere else we will replace him with Andy Reid.

Gotcha. I probably could have phrased that better. I’m not too worried overall. He deserves it and BYU is positioned to move forward in this new world. I just meant that Hill is going to have plenty more options than most are thinking. I’m not worried about lateral moves at all. But more than normal high G5 low P4 roles are going to be open and Hill absolutely deserves a job if he wants it.

Well, he's going to leave eventually, I suspect. I thought about that earlier this year, but this next year seems unlikely unless crazy things happen. I'm with you and don't see a lateral move, and I doubt the high G5/low P4s will be coming around at this time for a guy with only two years as a G5 DC (obviously USU will offer him ASAP, but I don't see him going there). But eventually, if BYU continues to play football in a way that makes us all very happy, other programs are going to approach our coaches. That would be a very good sign and Kalani can start to build his own tree.
                    Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

                          Yay!

Watching the ute fan meltdown on social media over the perceived Ryan Smith booster effect on BYU sports has been comedy gold.
