The extent to which some want to believe BYU is working 24/7 behind the scenes to undermine the things about which they care is just so awesome.

Was Alex Jensen really the top candidate? If so, how sad. My assumption is that they told Jensen he wasn't going to make the cut so he bowed out to save face. But if this is a big blow, yikers.
    Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

    • I heard the top candidate is the coach of Loyola Chicago. Dont know his name. But now that his team has made deep inroads into the dance, he's probably attracting a lot of attention. Luckily, Pope is not generating that kind of buzz right now.

I do think that Ryan Smith would have matched anything the Utes offered, but it has absolutely nothing to do with BYU. It is because Jensen is extremely valuable to the Jazz. Smith has shown that he is willing to spend with the Jazz to put a winner on the court. I doubt an extra million a year to keep the top assistant is that big of a deal to him. He just potentially went into the luxury tax territory for a end of the bench shooter.

I have no inside knowledge, but it sure seems like Jensen was the top target and that it wasn't the Utes that said no here.

As for the Loyola Chicago coach, Porter Moser, I have no clue if he has any interest in Utah. He was an assistant under Majerus for 4 years at St. Louis, so he has learned from one of the best of all time, just like Jensen.

I would have been excited about Jensen at Utah. I'll be excited about Johnnie Bryant if Utah goes that route. Bryant clearly either has a lot of interest in the job, or he is using the job opening to raise his profile. You have major NBA writers like Woj that are putting out there that Bryant is interested.

Isn't that basically what happened with Giacoletti? Didn't he have good success by taking a not-a-traditional-powerhouse school to the dance one year so the Utes hired him?

My memory is fuzzy because I don't really follow the Utah program that much.

Moser has a lot more success than Giacoletti had at Eastern Washington. Giacoletti didn't win in the NCAA tournament. What happened with Giacoletti is that Chris HIll called Mark Few. Few wasn't interested, obviously, because Few isn't interested in coaching at anywhere other than Gonzaga.

Few is piece of shit and talked up his incompetent little buddy over at Eastern Washington and told Chris Hill that he should hire him. Hill put significant stock in that piece of shit's recommendation and hired Giacoletti. Also, that piece of shit, Mark Few, went on the attack against Utah when they rightfully fired his incompetent little buddy, which certainly didn't help Utah's program either.

The important thing to remember here is that Mark Few is a piece of shit.

I knew Few was a great coach, but I didn't realize what an awesome dude he is until just now.

I think you are confused. He is not an awesome dude, he is a piece of shit. I hope that clarifies things.

Ha, Few is definitely smart. It’s like when a different department asks about one of tout low performing staff and you talk them up to get them out of your group.

I actually think Few thinks his incompetent buddy is actually a good coach. Few even employed him on his staff after he proved to be awful.

Giacoletti's timeout coaching methods at Utah involved him gathering the team around him and writing on a whiteboard "play harder."

                        • Big rumors about Craig Smith going to Utah. I have weak connection to Riley Batten on the utes that say it’s a done deal but have not seen anything on the internet.

Utah state will cry bitter tears if true. I do think Craig is a good coach though.

I won't complain if it is Craig Smith. It will be funny to see pissed off Utah State fans.

That would suck. I really like Craig Smith.
