Ok, I am sorry we won with having played such a weak schedule.

Couldn't someone on Clemson call for a fair catch? Alabama wouldn't be able to touch the ball until after it had hit the ground, right.

Yes. There is an exception to the rule in college that if there is an R player in the area with an opportunity to catch the ball (on the fly), the K team has to give him an opportunity to do so, even if no fair catch is called. This is why teams typically bounce the onside kick into the ground because that protection goes away when the ball hits the ground.

Alabama saw a huge open space and executed it perfectly.

Thank you. I did not think that this team would be able to accomplish this. I get your sarcasm.

A BYU player did this several years ago (6-8 years maybe?). The announcers thought it was a heads-up play. Don't remember who it was.

Yes, if they were in position to do so. The kicking team has to give the receiving team the opportunity to catch it if they are in the vicinity. Clemson wasn't there, so it was perfectly legal.

I'm not saying it wasn't legal. I think it was a great play call and execution. I'm not sure how the rules define "in the vicinity." It would have been interesting if the nearest Clemson player had called for a fair catch and then Alabama caught the ball. Would the refs called a penalty?
