Well, either you're closing your eyes to a situation you do now wish to acknowledge or you are not aware of the caliber of disaster indicated by the presence of a losing football coach in this community. Ya got trouble, my friend, right here, I say, trouble right here in Provo City.

I don't like Bronco as a human being. He's a sanctimonious phony suck up to the titans in the COB, and he passes the buck, throws his assistants to the wolves. Personally I wouldn't want to spend five minutes with him. But as a football coach he's done amazing work at BYU. 3D is right that BYU has awful constraints, primarily due to the honor code and this independence foolishness/awkwardness and Utah's elevation to the Pac 12. It could get a lot worse for BYU. There is no bottom. If BYU wants to become relevant in whatever way it needs to loosen its ties to the LDS Church. If Bronco had any sense he'd be trolling for one of the more desirable MWC jobs.
When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

            2010 7-6
            2011 10-3
            2012 8-5
            2013 8-5
            2014 8-5 (probably)

When you look back at the record over the last 5 years it gives you some perspective. No wonder so many fans are quite happy with the state of the program. Who cares if we didn't beat Utah any of those years, they have different goals and values we don't subscribe to.

Yep. It's a combination of selective memory from '96, Detmer years, early 80s and Bronco's initial success 06-09 which was almost as good as the height of the glory years. All those time periods had their fair share of dumb losses and weak schedules.

So, should we just be content where we are? Maybe, but I don't think the current formula gets us anything else.

I don't think we have a choice do we? Without changes from the folks in charge, does anyone really think we could get to where Utah is? 2 undefeated seasons and playing in a P5 conference.

If you do I would love to hear your reasoning and how it can be done.

I think the limitations on our program extend well beyond the coach. I said this in another thread, but given those limitations, I don't think our upside as a program is materially higher than what Bronco can give us. But the floor is definitely lower.

Look at the 2015 recruiting class and it looks like BYU is getting their fair share of poly kids.

ha, good link for the doomsday subscribers.

losing the poly pipeline? we should be worried about finding enough lomi lomi salmon to feed all of these islanders!

Yep. Out of curiousity I went and looked at the star level of our and Utah's recruits. Appears to me to be not different at all. Yet, on the field this year and playing against them the last 4 years, they appear to have more talented players.

I think people are complaining about the anticipated in-state recruiting battle losses after a terrible season. BYU fans are in full meltdown mode right now. But you are spot on. There are some things I dislike and Bronco (coaching hires, player development, anytime he opens his mouth), but I'm not sure there is someone who could do better in the current situation. Sitake is loyal to Kyle and will either take over after Whit retires or will go to another school with a bigger paycheck. I know there has been talk of Stanford's DC being a good candidate. And there is always Ken Niumatalolo (who is probably the most realistic candidate). But are any of these an upgrade from Bronco?

I do find it interesting that BYU was ranked 18th after beating nobodies but Utah is only ranked 18th after beating a top ten team, a top 25 team, and a decent Oregon St team. BYU still has cache that most teams don't. Even when results are taken into account.
