There is no excuse for the defensive performance. I agree with that. But if it was because the team was buying into the hype than that is 100% on the coaches.

The players and coaches were all saying the right things leading up to the game. The defensive problems have been showing for a few weeks so no defensive player should have bought into their own hype.

jordan Johnson isn't very good. What "hype" was he buying into? The defense has been called out in the media the last few games. Nobody is hyping the defense this season. JJs mistakes on Friday led to what...14 points? Leslie dropped a pass that could have given us 7 points. That's the game right there. Leslie can correct his mistakes. JJ can't. Davis must actually suck if he can't beat out JJ for that spot.

To be fair to Leslie that ball he dropped was tipped at the line of scrimmage.

Agree that this defense just isn't that great -- it's pretty simple.

Look I know fans feel like they have no effect I this way but when it is a constant thing to win a few games and fans start soiling their britches over heisman trophies and playoffs or NY6 bowl games it rubs off and players start to buy in to their invincibility.

I mean USU looked like a better, deeper program than us. They were missing Chuckie, their 2nd round draft pick projected LB Fackrell, and their best receiver. Their starting rb was playing on a gimpy knee.

At the very least we were way under prepared for this game. Which reflects a lot of poor attitude and eating up all tht the fans and local media were feeding.

What are fans supposed to do, then? NOT talk about the program? NOT talk about the Heisman candidate QB? Remain cool and detached in the face of having some relevance in the national discussion for the first time in several years? Predict an awful performance, a season-ending injury to our QB, and a loss to a team that we hadn't lost to at home in my lifetime, a team that had been beaten by Ark State the prior week?

It's easy and obvious to say now that the team was under prepared. Hindsight is 20/20 and it would be nice if we could go back to Friday before kick off and temper our expectations so this loss wasn't so devastating. But almost no one predicted this BYU loss, not even many Aggies.

After this weekend it seems like there's a pretty decent chance the Pac doesn't get a playoff team. SC already at two losses and it seems likely the Ducks will have another at some point. And my guess it AZ loses two along the way. fUCLA's not running the table from here either. They've squeaked by in too many games already.

All of this is good for the SEC teams that will all have 1-2 loses. 2007 all over again.

It's funny how fans respond after a loss (myself included). Last weekend Bronco was a great coach and Utah fans were clamoring for a change at head coach. Now the roles are reversed.

I’m not sure how I feel with Bronco as coach. The three key aspects of coaching are finding talent, developing talent, a game planning. I think he is doing an ok job of finding talent. He knows how to develop linebackers, but not so sure with other positions. Game planning is probably the biggest frustration. It seems like he has a plan and sticks to it regardless of the opponent. It is dependent on execution. This works out when BYU has more or equal talent than the opponent. This strategy worked wonders when he took over from Crowton but I think it is also responsible for some of the head scratchers like Friday night. Another problem is he fails to take into account the intangibles of in-state rivalries. This frustrates me the most. But he is a good coach. He has never had a losing season. Bronco will be the coach for the foreseeable future. He wins too much to be even on the hot seat. And I’m not sure there is a better option out there.

It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out. The Big-12 is in a great position given the lack of a conference championship game. The SEC will probably have two teams in. If Florida State beats ND, they will probably win out.

I sure hope CJ is ok. I know how much he loves BYU and thinks Utah sucks. Gotta be a tough weekend. I do hope he is OK, but selfishly I also would like to hear what kind of things are going on with the team.

Even at 2 losses, I think the PAC 12 sends a team.
