I thought that return was set up nicely by Hine's previous effort. On the previous return, Hine caught the ball and took a step or two and then the entire return team pivoted left and everyone bounced to the outside where Hine got 30+ yards. I thought at the time that one of our future opponents might give us an opportunity up the middle after watching film by overplaying Hine to the sideline, but I didn't know it would pay such immediate dividends. I think UVA was looking for the return to go up the sideline and they didn't protect the middle of the field.

    • I wonder if we'll see any trick plays this season. Seems like Taysom is the perfect QB to line up wide for an old school double pass.

I hope not. That's the kind of bullshit Utah and Boise would do.

We were sitting in the south end zone. My uncle, cousin, and I all saw the hole at the same time and started yelling. That was a lot of fun.
          Not that, sickos.

Just from the standpoint of football analytics, UVA deserved to lose based on that ridiculous decision.

EDIT: Just was looking at the play-by-play and I guess a false start backed them up to the 6 before the FG -- I think I was coming back from taking my daughter to the restroom for that.

Agree with those who said the delay of game when BYU had all their timeouts after the Rob Daniel INT was the dumbest play of the game on our part, extremely frustrating.
If not for the false start, they most likely punch that in and go up 14-3. That changes the entire game.

Did you see the Bengals pull this off yesterday with Andy Dalton? That thing looked just like the Steve Young Holiday Bowl highlight against Missouri complete with the defender whiffing on the interception.

I thought the Manziel trick play from yesterday was pretty clever but for a penalty.

                      • It wouldn't surprise me a bit if Hine was given a larger roll on offense. He seems to have fixed his issues with catching the ball out of the backfield. His running's not quite JSwag worthy but it's pretty decent.

It still pisses me off that we didn't capitalize on the interception and took the delay of game. Anae should be roasted over the coals for that one.

He doesn't have the hips for it, nor the OL IMO. He's a straight line guy who, if the hole presents itself, will not hesitate to blow through it. What makes Jswag unique is his ability to take the handoff and move laterally.

You're wrong. Jswag is better at it but Hine can do it as well. Check his average per rush last year and you'll find the stats disagree with you.

It's all going from memory - but it seems like Jswag nearly ALWAYS gets something. He's always falling forward. He just doesn't lose yards, and often he gets at least 3 when he shouldn't have gotten any.

But Hine seems (again, this is just my perception) to be an all or nothing guy. He might have a good average, but it seems like it is because he gets stonewalled 2-3 times in a row, and then hits a hole for 15. Hine needs to get the ball in space.

Hine needs to be the option pitch when hill pulls the ball from Jswag and starts rolling outside and sees that a defender is set to stop him - the guy he pitches or throws that short overhand toss to, who burns up the sideline.
