  • Was thinking today about the game and how kicking a FG on fourth down from the one-yard line early in the game is such a bad decision, what a losers mentality from the UVA coaches there.

Just from the standpoint of football analytics, UVA deserved to lose based on that ridiculous decision.

EDIT: Just was looking at the play-by-play and I guess a false start backed them up to the 6 before the FG -- I think I was coming back from taking my daughter to the restroom for that.

Agree with those who said the delay of game when BYU had all their timeouts after the Rob Daniel INT was the dumbest play of the game on our part, extremely frustrating.

If nothing else, call timeout. How did nobody see that? Why isn't it somebody's job to stand next to bronco and yell "five, four, THREE, TWO" when the clock runs down?

      • One other item to my list of uniquely BYU dorkisms (Hey, Baby; Popcorn; etc.)....: "Another Grandma Sycamore's third down conversion!" One pictures a plump little old lady, a marble rye tucked under her arm, fighting for those few extra inches.

I don't think they sell marble rye. Joke is on you.

          • Re-watching the game now. What was with the ref in the end zone touching each player that scored a touchdown? He does it with both teams.

I commented on that too. He appeared to be one of those back judges abnormally obsessed with player behavior after a touchdown. Any time a player who scored showed any excitement he ran up to give his lecture/warning.

              • So, along those lines, why did we get flagged for excessive celebration after the Hine runback? Was it over the top? Seem's that's an exciting play, so some leeway should be given.
                Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I thought that call was ridiculous. You have gamebreaking special teams play and the kids are NOT supposed to be excited. Gimme a f'ing break.

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

                  • Hine's kick return was my favorite part of the game. So good to see him get some success and he's been itching for so long to take one to the house.

That hole up the middle was amazing. That had to be one of the easiest returns ever. Straight shot to the end zone.

Especially with Paul Lasike leading the path.

But if he was half a step slower I think the hole would have closed on him at the very end. Plus he put a very subtle and neat move on the safety (was that a kicker) to put him out of position.

Great return all around, and miserably bad coverage for UVA.

                          • It's easy to forget just how fast Hine is sometimes until he really gets an opportunity in the open field. A combination of size and speed rarely seen at BYU.
                            I'm like LeBron James.

Yeah. He was putting yards on everyone chasing him down. Pretty impressive.

That was the most impressive thing to me. He'd just sprinted 30-40 yards flat out, as opposed to a bunch of guys who had gone the same at probably 85-90 percent, and yet he pulled away from them like it was nothing. Incredible.
