That was the best road ever. Such a blast. We went on Thursday so we could take a little more time to play. Hit up some fantastic BBQ on Friday and Saturday and visited a bunch of old friends. Made a pit stop at the co-op to pick up a pile of burnt orange gear for my son. But I am happy to report that he wore BYU blue for the entire trip this time.

A few photos from game day:

Saw these coming in by one of those invisible tailgates.

    Pre-game:

First half. Notice the BYU section in the corner. There was another BYU section in nosebleed on the north endzone. And lots of blue sprinkled around. It was a nice showing.

This is what the crowd looked like in the fourth quarter.

As the clock wound down, loud "BYU-BYU-BYU" chants. Fans rushed down to ring the edge of the field and the coaches and players spent a lot of time high-fiving fans. This is the view from one corner:

Really a great moment. After the game we went out and hung out by the player/coach exit. Huge crowd there as well. What a game.

      Those BBQ pictures were incredible.

I should also add that the Texas fans were incredibly gracious through the entire game. Given the nature of the rout and especially after what happened last year, that surprised me. After Taysom's leap into the end zone, we were going nuts and several fans turned and chatted about it. One said,

"I really hate that that just happened, but that is one of the coolest plays I have ever seen."

          Another said,

"What is it like to have such a great quarterback?"

Lots of people came up afterwards and congratulated us. I hope opposing teams have a similar experience in Provo. Except the Ute fans of course.

I can't express how much I wish we had done that to Wisconsin last year.

One final thing. How in the hell can someone not like watching a guy ride a jetpack over the field? Holy crap, people. A jetpack!

If you don't like jetpacks, you deserve to spend your life writing legal briefs.

Too bad those corn-fed midwesterners know how to stop the run.

I have already squandered most of my life writing legal briefs so I am entitled to gripe about it, I guess. Why a jet pack? It's not Houston so there's no nasa connection. It's not for Boeing. So why do it? And it was ear splittingly loud. Really bad noise. It was painful, like a Michael Bolton concert turned up to 11. And he goes up , does a little circle over half the field and then lands. Okay. And that happened because?? Of course later in the game they did have a quiz on the scoreboard screen about whether his landing pad was red, blue or yellow. It was yellow but why isn't it orange? The whole thing was mystifying to me.

That said it didn't last long, so that was good.

And to be clear I thought the game day atmosphere was fine. I have no complaints at all. Very friendly people, marching band and so forth. I was just surprised there wasn't a little more there there.
                  PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Sure but WHY A JETPACK?? I asked the old Texan fan next to me and he said, with that wonderfully laconic Texas drawl, "why, ah have absolutely no ah-dih."

                        Great pictures, JL!
                        Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

One of the best posts I have read on shaggybevo was something to the effect of "is this what other teams felt like playing us when we had VY?"

I said a long time ago, as in a few years ago, that Texas had no real pre game atmosphere. Let me handle that stuff folks. Thanks.
                            Fitter. Happier. More Productive.
