Couldn't agree more. UT's win over North Texas means absolutely nothing. It was a glorified scrimmage for them and they aren't even fielding the same team against us. I think we win. I hope we win handily, but I'm not as confident in our rush defense, even with their modified O-Line. BYU wins, but it could be a really close game. The only way it will be a blowout is if we jump ahead 21-0 in the first quarter and I just don't see that happening.Dio perdona tante cose per un’opera di misericordia

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

Agree. Texas has better talent than they did back in 1998 and Strong is probably a better game-day coach than Brown.Originally posted by lambdacoug View PostDifferent talent. Different coaching staff.
Swoopes won't need to set QB rushing records to keep the Longhorns in a close, defensive game. I find it interesting that some BYU fans would think that Swoopes may not be a crediable enough passer when their own QB has faced the same criticism, at least to this point in his career, yet BYU has still won.Originally posted by SCcoug View PostHe also rushed for 259 yards. Swoopes isn't going to do that.
Will a BYU win over Texas really be considered an upset? Last I heard, the point spread is very close. Charlie Strong has a long rope at the moment. But the Horns face a tough first half of their schedule with BYU, UCLA, OU, and Baylor. If UT wins the RRS against OU, fans will quickly forget a loss to BYU.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostI wonder what the BYU upset this year will change at UT....“Not the victory but the action. No matter the point spread it will be considered an upset by "the eyes of Texas" if UT falls to BYU (again).Originally posted by Paperback Writer View PostWill a BYU win over Texas really be considered an upset? Virtually every person I have spoken with here in Austin so far is predicting a BYU victory.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostNo matter the point spread it will be considered an upset by "the eyes of Texas" if UT falls to BYU (again)."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? By that standard - "the eyes of Texas standard" - any loss to any team on the Longhorn's schedule would be considered an upset by Longhorn fans save a loss to OU.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostNo matter the point spread it will be considered an upset by "the eyes of Texas" if UT falls to BYU (again).“Not the victory but the action. Good to hear Strong may be getting a grace period, as he should. But it won't be long before Longhorn fans' expectations return to the "eyes of Texas standard" and it will be because Strong has the Horns back winning.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostVirtually every person I have spoken with here in Austin so far is predicting a BYU victory.“Not the victory but the action. But things are already getting out of control over at the ShaggyBevo... http://www.shaggybevo.com/board/show...-will-be-a-war! They are hungry for revenge. They even are talking about starting flights in the stands:

Given the bandwagon mentality I sense beginning to build here, I hereby retract my earlier statement of unfettered optimism. The Pigskin Gods do not look kindly upon the sin of hubris and they seem to take a particularly keen interest in holding BYU accountable for its sins.

Yeah Taysom faced that criticism at the beginning of last year. The difference is that Taysom had had a couple decent to good games before that (and he was a good passer in high school). Swoopes has never been accurate (although to be fair I haven't seen his middle school or Pop Warner stats). If Texas can run the ball, force turnovers, and make it a defensive slugfest then yes it won't matter that Swoopes can't complete passes.Originally posted by Paperback Writer View PostSwoopes won't need to set QB rushing records to keep the Longhorns in a close, defensive game.
