Can I go on record saying I think the Riley hire is lame? Not for any Oregon measuring stick though. I have said before if you are going to fire a guy who has had decent success you either go with a home run (if you can afford it) or someone with local ties who will be given time. Riley is neither. We apparently learned nothing 10 years ago.

well, one reason is that Mike Riley doesnt have anger management issues and likely wont embarrass the program with off the field misbehavior.

Riley will be a model citizen and simply embarrass the program on the field.

I can't recall an example of when Bo Pelini embarassed Nebraska off-the-field unless it is reference to post-game meetings with the press where is he was still loco after the game. It's not like Pelini had a mistress fall off his motorcycle or something; he was a pretty good citizen in most respects as were his players. On the sidelines is another matter where I think Pelini embarassed Nebraska quite often both by his anger induced behavior and by getting blown out in games that mattered on national TV.

Considering Riley's age, this isn't a long-term hire. Time will tell to what extent Riley will embarass Nebraska on the field. I'd rather Nebraska gambled and hired Scott Frost with no HC experience. Nebraska took a safer path with Riley.

Mike Riley was in a no-win situation at OSU, and he could have made a strong case to Nebraska of over exceeding expectations at OSU considering his budget and the head/head recruiting against Oregon. He is a good coach, and has the street cred of professional head coaching which is an aid to recruiting. He's also the type of person you want to deal with kids, and public relations. He's just a good guy. (He and Jay Locey recruited my son, and I've met him twice.) With decent support from an administration, and some Buffett type $$ to shine up the program, I think Riley would be a great hire to revitalize a once proud program.

Let's double check that we're not talking about Riley being hired by University of Nebraska at Omaha.

You guys love to take a quick reaction post and needlessly dissect it.. The fact is, he is not a good hire. Period.. Dude went 5-7 on the year? Why is Nebraska hiring a guy without a winning record. There are many other reasons why this is an odd hire. But go ahead and stick to a single reason and dissect it to death..

ok well if you want to not count actual examples then I would agree that there probably arent many examples. fair enough

I want to sincerely apologize for my comments from two years ago which became public today. I take full responsibility for these comments. They were spoken in a private room following the Ohio State game. I was venting following a series of emotional events which led to this moment. That being said, these comments are in no way indicative of my true feelings. I love it here in Nebraska and feel fortunate to be associated with such a great University and fan base. I again apologize to anyone whom I have offended.

Riley is a good coach Pelini is a good coach. Seems like a wash. There had to be reasons other than record for Bo to get the ax.
