Not really. Nebraska fired Frank Solich in 2003 for similar failings. Under Solich, Nebraska at least went to a couple of major bowl games when Nebraska was highly ranked or competed for a national championship (1999, 2001). Apparently, the AD and administration felt Pelini wasn't going to lead Nebraska to a conference championship let along compete for a national championship. And they were probably right. I don't think its asking too much for Nebraska to win the Big Ten West with some regularity. It's the Big Ten West, not the SEC West.

Riley with Oregon St. has not won against Oregon since 2007. With Nebraska he'll have games against the Ducks in 2016 and 2017 so we'll have the opportunity to see how Riley fares with Nebraska players. If one doesn't like that comparison or want to wait that long, Rileys first game as HC with Nebraska is against an opponent every here is familar with.
