  • I'm very interested in seeing how are defense is going to play. By now they're used to playing fast and facing lots of plays. Wisconsin is anything but and they huddle up every offensive play. Many have speculated that some of the missed tackles, KVN's in particular have been due to fatigue. I am wondering what if any benefit playing a slow, deliberate team like Wisconsin will have on the defense. Of course that goes both ways. Wisconsin's offense uses the play clock to rest their road graders up front that allow their two dynamic backs to run all day.

On offense, ASU is the best comparison to what BYU does and they lost with the clock debacle caused by the Pac 12 refs at the end of games. And they lost a close one to Ohio State. They've piled up wins against really weak competition. People have railed against Ohio State and the Big 10 this year with good reason. Wisconsin's win Saturday was the first against a team with a winning record. They also have a few guys banged up. Their #1 receiver left the game Saturday after taking a shot to the ribs. Not sure on his status. And their stud ILB Borland is nursing an injury too. I am guessing both will play this Saturday. ASU was able to hang almost 500 yards of offense on Wisconsin and Kelly threw for over 350. Much of this game hinges on OL play. If they give Taysom time, I think he can throw all over Wisconsin. Running up front will be difficult. This may be a game where BYU has to come out slinging like they did against GT and Houston to set up the run. Also, Taysom is going to have to use his legs in this one. We're going to need some Texas magic.

The key to good defense is making teams one dimensional. Wisconsin is probably able to both pass and run against BYU. They will run because they are really good at running the ball. They will likely be able to pass because we have one adequate corner, playing out of position as a field corner when he should be a boundary or a safety, and another corner who is not real good and is playing out of position but wouldn't even be real good if in the proper position. BYU's safeties are legit but they are going to have huge responsibilities against the run to contain it. In other words I think that their playing to their strengths will expose our weaknesses a great deal more than we have seen.

BYU still wins, but the glory will go to that NOBLE SON OF THE 208! who will lead his team to a glorious victory. Offense will have to win this game.

I wonder if the offense can make Wisconsin one dimensional. If we can put up points on them and put them in a position to throw I like our chances. If Stave has to throw around 30 balls or more I think we've done well. Though with as many yards as they average per carry on the ground I am not even sure it matters.

I don't think we use up enough of the play clock to put that type of pressure on them. Even if it turns into a track meet they will still have time to take their sweet time.

I was thinking more in the second half. If we keep pace with the score and force them into situations where they have to abandon their methodical pace I think it could be an issue. They haven't demonstrated the best clock management in recent games.

                    • This is one of those games that historically I get my hopes up for, thinking that Wisc won't know what hit them. (Not saying that BYU will blow them out or anything, just that no matter what Anderson tells them, the Wisc players are going to view BYU as a non-BCS team from some small place that doesn't know what big time football is. And that they'll be surprised by how physical BYU plays.)

Sometimes it works out like that.

And then sometimes BYU goes soft, doesn't play as well as they can, and looks like a bunch of little girls being dump trucked by a team that looks much superior but really isn't as superior as they look.

So I guess I'm going into this one optimistic - but feeling like it has the potential to look like one of those FSU games from not too long ago. You know, when they decide they are just going to run it, run it, run it, and BYU is going to give them anywhere from 4-6 yards on most running plays - with an occasional 20-30 yard burst.

Come on BYU front seven - play how you're capable this game.

It would also be nice if Taysom had more than 2 seconds to throw. So OL - time to show up.

That would be a good candidate for the next tradition that the Utah fans could steal ... err ... adopt.

                          LOL

                          I don't pay 10 bucks a month for Netflix. I'm not paying Tree 10 bucks a month for 3 articles a week.

I'd pay if it was like 2 bucks a month. I bet he'd get a lot more subs as well.

Tree either got some terrible advice or should didn't get any advice at all - either way, someone should have clued him in to the fact that even most addicts aren't going to pay him more than the annual cost of Amazon Prime for his commentary on BYU football.

Agree with that. However Ogletree said he already has made more that he imagined he would. Good for him. $10 a month is too much for me. He is charging the same as Scouts.com/Rivals.com If he went to $2-$3 amonth I would pay that.
