This is a good point. I recently read about Notre Dame getting snubbed from Big 10 inclusion in the 1930s, because the school wasn't considered an academic peer and the whole Catholisicm bias. So Knute Rockne decided to own the Catholic thing and they became America's college team. They were a team that appealed to blue collar fans, had a base in every industrialized northern city, and they won a lot. And now they are Notre Freaking Dame.

I also will say that I think this is the best BYU team Boise State has faced. I think BYU is the better team and will win the game. I also expect Boise State to be better prepared and Mendenhall will get outcoached, but that is because I don't think there is anyone better at preparing a team and a gameplan than Chris Peterson. Mendenhall is a good coach he just isn't as good as Peterson. But in the end the fact that BYU has better players and a spectacular quarterback will be enough to lead to a BYU victory and I think the final score will be decisive.

However, both fanbases are dorky and make easy targets.

When I was there BSU was just starting a 12 year losing streak to Idaho. They were a former Div IAA champion who was struggling to try and get back on top. They came so far so fast that the fans remind me of a poor family who won the lottery, they are proud of their new found success but they haven't handled it very well.

I think I would like BSU if it wasn't for a lot of their fans. In fact, some of my best friends are non-LDS and went to BSU, and I had some great times there on campus with them. What I don't like is that BSU, by becoming good at football, gave the jealous-anti-BYU-asshole contingent in Idaho a tangible cause and a unified voice-- that's why a lot of these Johnny-come-latelies jumped onto Bandwagon State, and that's why I really want BYU to kick the shit out of them.

My only experience was when they came to Provo during the Crowton era and kicked the crap out of us. We had expensive seats and yet somehow cheap white trash BSU fans were also in the area. They were drunk and it was F the mormons, F this and F that. Finally the lady behind us called over an usher and we was told just to ignore it they didn't want to cause an incident. Try doing that in LES as a Cougar fan. They won't mind causing an incident throwing your butt out.

I have disdain for BSU fans. 100 to nothing would be just fine.

My buddy was attending graduate school at Utah a few years back and invited me and 3 other Cougar fans to the BSU-Utah game in the MUSS because, as he put it, "we're going to show you how to beat BSU". He didn't speak after the 1st quarter and we didn't dare engage him until we left the stadium.

Of course I was in RES so watching Utah students and fans lose their shit was totally awesome, but as an added benifit I also got to experience a decent tailgate before the game with several groups of Ute fans and witness firsthand the true nature of BSU fans. Even Landpoke would be have been shocked at their behavior.

I did not golf, no. My "not one Boise fan" comment was more directed as a dig at FN Phat. Even still, I had always considered you a Cougar, not a Bronco. Maybe I need to study your posts more closely.
