OK. What else happened on that day that overshadowed the cheap shot punch that cemented you as a fan? Must have been incredible.

Many Oregon fans are not even fans of that knucklehead.

Before the punch, Blount was irrelevant in my mind. That incident caused me to start paying attention to him as a player and I tend to be a fan of big, punishing, running backs. Not that incredible, but it worked for me.

Being hired by the BYU accounting program is kind of like being called up to the big leagues and BYU doesn't miss a lot on its hires. Well, this guy was awful, just awful. He lost control of the class early on and never really gained any momentum or respect. Granted this was the accounting program at BYU so the students still showed up, did the work, and were overall respectful, but when evaluation time came this professor got roasted big time. Honestly he deserved it, but the dean threw out the evaluations and blamed it all on a "mob mentality". Needless to say, the professor lasted only 2 or 3 more semesters until the school figured out he was terrible at teaching. He was finally pushed out the door.

Guess where he ended up eventually......Boise State.
I don't think their is any question that the academics in Provo are tougher than they are in Boise. The kids are smarter, the classes are more challenging and I'm sure they pump out a better prepared graduate. OTH I enjoyed my professors in Boise more than I did Provo, entry level classes in Boise were still taught by professors and not by graduate assistants, fellow students were kinder and more willing to work together. Provo was so competitive and I was so under prepared for it that my time in Provo was terrible. From my experience if I took my books to an accounting firm and one partner went to BYU and one went to BSU I would like the Y grad to do the accounting but I would rather my interaction with the firm be with the BSU grad. One other subject I would like to address is oxcoug and picklebutton still call BSU the truck driving school. First off if I was oxcoug I would be embarrassed to be lumped in with picklebutton in anything, if I ever left the church my number one reason would be because picklebutton is a member. In all my time at BSU I never saw anything that linked the school with truck driving and perhaps they do but I do know that the game ball at the Utah game was delivered by a BYU grad who drives truck and oxcoug could walk away from his job and life as we know it would not change much but if every truck stopped rolling today everybody on this board would experience some hardship in just three days.

You can throw out all the academic stuff but bottom line is BSU is 3-0 against BYU.

You mean big, punishing running backs that throw chickenshit cheap shot punches after losing a game.

            Gotcha.

Yeah I think he had like 15 carries for 12 yards or something!

I became a fan of his when he stuck with the team after being suspended, finished his degree (whatever that means for a football player) and seemed to show he wasn't a quitter. I started being less of a fan when he fumbled the would be winning touchdown in the Rose Bowl to Ohio State.

Edit: Looked it up 8 carries for -5 and tackled for a safety!

That was a low point in Oregon sports for, maybe forever. Even worse than the grellow helmets.

I was just about to come to your defense and say that I have met exactly one BSU fan that like. 2 if your wife happens to be a BSU fan (but I get the feeling she would prefer to cheer for the Lord's university if she didn't live in a house of BSU fans).

No, just big running backs. I was a fan of Jerome Bettis, Mike Alstott, Craig Heyward, and the like, as well. I don't know what kind of people any of those guys are, but enjoy watching them run with the football.

I must say, Lebowski, that it is sorta cute to watch you try to make controversy where there really is none, however.

SMR, you made a dumb statement, you said you became a fan of him that day. The best thing to do is own it.

Blount had a 1000+ yard year the year before in 2008 and made SportsCenter a bunch for running people over or hurtling them. He was only on the radar in 2009 because of how well he had played in 2008.

                      • Disturbing to see so many purported BYU fans actually are Boise fans/closet BYU fans.

Except FN Phat. He's a legit Boise fan. He's just on CS because he has nowhere better to go.

lol. I became a fan of Blount that day. Dumb, smart, silly or however you might classify it, it was an accurate statement. I'm not an Oregon fan, especially back then, I didn't pay attention to the team and Blount simply wasn't on my radar. The punch caused me to pay attention to him. It's really that simple.

                          • I like Boise State the program. It has a lot to be proud of. More impressive than BYU's over the past decade - by a lot.

I don't think Boise State is a spectacular academic school but I don't think BYU is one either. If so many folks who went to BYU who throw down academic smack wanted to go to an academic reputable school most of them should have gone elsewhere. But I don't think much of that matters.

I also think Boise State fans are very much johnny come latelies. But the reason is because the program is johnny come lately. The mighty Notre Dame fanbase was johnny come lately a century ago or so. Everyone has to start somewhere. BYU's fanbase was very much resembling BSU's in the late 70's-early 80's. However, both fanbases are dorky and make easy targets.

I also will say that I think this is the best BYU team Boise State has faced. I think BYU is the better team and will win the game. I also expect Boise State to be better prepared and Mendenhall will get outcoached, but that is because I don't think there is anyone better at preparing a team and a gameplan than Chris Peterson. Mendenhall is a good coach he just isn't as good as Peterson. But in the end the fact that BYU has better players and a spectacular quarterback will be enough to lead to a BYU victory and I think the final score will be decisive.
