The second one in the end zone, you've got a 6'6" receiver running along the back line with nobody in front of him. Get the ball up and away towards the corner if you're throwing it there, or better yet, hit the wide open Hine in the flat. Instead, you throw it low and behind him, and the defender is able to make the play.

The third INT, Hill is rolling to his right, throwing back across his body and down the field. You watched the route that Matthews ran, and he needs to roll more to the QB so that he isn't throwing it so far across the field and across his body. The other thing with Matthews, he has to go and fight for the ball, not stand there and wait for the ball. He's also got to make a better effort to either catch the ball or break the pass up. Having said that, I'm pretty sure it was 3rd down anyways, so that pick was essentially a punt. Not terribly upset about it.

On the missed blocking assignments, Houston was running delay blitzes, essentially waiting for the back or additional lineman to commit to helping, and then coming. The line has got to fix that, because this meant that they were able to get pressure bring basically 4 or sometimes 5 guys. When you've got 6 in blocking, you shouldn't let 4 guys beat you, especially if they're coming in untouched.
Agreed on all counts. If he floats that ball to lasike or otherwise gets him earlier that's a huge gain. And Mathews absolutely needs to fight for that ball - shared blame. I had the same thought re punt that you did.

I also think that if we don't give up the return in the first quarter we win that game by four touchdowns.

    • I could be wrong, but on the pick 6 it looked like Taysom threw to Lasike knowing that he had a RB in the flat, but never really looked to see if he was covered. Almost like he went through his progression too quickly.

      • Maybe Indy or some other stat-head can find out when the last time was that five BYU WRs caught four or more passes. That's distribution from a bygone era.

Hey, we should be punished for our own sins, and not for Ox's transgressions.

              • That was a fun game. UH fans made a lot of noise for being a mere 20k. BYU crowd was a little timid at times, but we got pretty noisy when It mattered. My voice is trashed.

BYU tailgate was fun. I got to chat Holmoe up for about fifteen. He's a really genuine guy.

                • That was a fun game to watch. We had it up on the big screen in our Operations Center yesterday. Very entertaining. It struck me how long the game went.

was the longest game BYU has ever played that did not go into OT.

2nd or 3rd longest game, and non-OT game, in BYU history.

I extended the recording by an hour. It cut off at 1:54 left in the 4th. *sigh*

                          - PoVey frequently "hits", but does not tackle. He is adept at turning himself into a human missile though... one that frequently misses/fails to detonate.

                          - Regarding his cushion, he very well may be instructed to play at that depth. This is the one thing I wouldn't blame him for.

                          - Regarding his hit on O'Korn, again he left his feet (human missile alert!), and hit a QB who was clearly headed OOB. He needs to be more situationally aware. In slow-mo it didn't look like that bad a hit, but in real time it was hard enough/OOB enough/on a QB enough that it will draw a flag more often than not.

                          - If it was just the O'Korn hit, that would be one thing. But PoVey has had several similar plays throughout the season. Check the game threads and see something like 5 instantaneous posts about PoVey being a day late/dollar short.
I stand by my previous comment and declare myself the winner of this argument after you appealed to the authority of CS posters in game threads.

                          • On the third pick, Matthews was open by at least 15 yards. Taysom seemed to have time to set his feet and launch it. The ball was severely under thrown. If taysom puts 10 more yards on the throw Matthews maybe scores a touchdown.

You realize Hill was rolling right, being pressured, and Matthews was on the opposite hash right? So Hill is throwing across his body deep downfield, across the field. And you think he should just put "10 yards more" on it? Gotcha.

                                It's all so simple.
