Was Chris recruited by the current coaching staff at ND? I'm terrible at remembering the coaching carousel timelines.

Chris Badger Transferring to BYU

He has used one year of eligibility. At this point he has 4 seasons to play 3. His eligibility clock ends at the end of the 2016 season because he want to Notre Dame for the 2nd semester of his senior year. He then returned last summer and rode the pine in 2012. He was considering transferring last spring but decided to stick it out and did not move up the depth chart. He played as a true freshman in 2012, is looking like a redshirt candidate for 2013 and then should be a RS Soph in 2014.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

His supposed brother with more info from cb.
http://www.cougarboard.com/board/mes...ml?id=11080155I'm one of Chris' brothers (need to change the CB name now).. But I've been a BYU fan for a while and have posted on the board before.. Just to clarify some things with Chris...
He opted to leave just last week, so he met w/ Coach Kelly last weekend and got his release on Sunday. He was able to speak with BYU coaches briefly yesterday to see if they were interested (they're obviously busy w/ more important things). He'll join the team on Tues. He'll be walking on (no planned scholarship, unless earned). He'll have to sit out this year and then will have 3 years left to play. One reason for coming back is to be closer to family. We do have a parent with some health issues that he would like to be closer by but it's not something that restricted travel as reported earlier. Just something where Chris wanted to be here for various reasons and so opted to do so.. We haven't talked about an NCAA appeal and definitely not planning on anything. I assume we'll have the chance to talk w/ some people at BYU to see if that is something to explore but not sure.
Obviously he was outside the 2-deep at ND but this really wasn't a football decision (as evidence by giving up the scholarship and opting to walk-on). He did have a ton of competition at ND and came back from his mission where he was running in the two deep as an early enrollee freshman to being behind 7 new recruits who were recruited by the current staff. So hard to get a lot of reps and to continue developing. ND is pretty deep with multiple 4 star safeties, the #1 five star guy from this year and have placed their last 8 safeties in the NFL so it is obviously a tough place to play. But he obviously new that going in. Regardless, he'll have 3 years here to compete for some playing time, so will see how that goes.

Yeah I noticed he seems to have lost two inches on his mission. EcuadorOriginally posted by MarkGrace View PostYeah, smaller than I thought. Scout had him at 6'1" 194 lbs in HS so I was hoping he could get to decent LB'er size. Guess not.

I predict he gets a scholarship starting in January. I think his Notre Dame experience indicates he is not likely a sure fire NFL safety or an All-American, but I do think it likely he will be better than Wadsworth or Reilly. He is still a good prospect at safety for BYU.Originally posted by Joe Public View PostNothing wrong with a little depth in the secondary, especially without the use of a scholarship.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

He'll give us more depth at SS in 2014. He'll never start for us in absence of injuries in front of him.

I think he will start in 2015 after Craig Bills graduates, but I expect him to be a reserve next year.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!
